Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers will need to provide a physical full driving license in their name with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1-2 year(s).

For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Please note that an International Driving Permit(IDP) is only a translation.You must present your original driving licence with the original IDP at the counter.

For local renters, you need to bring:

Renters must contact AVIS (Tel: + 54 0810 9991 2847; Email: reservations@avis.com.ar) at least 7 working days prior to the pick-up date to report the cross-border request, so that AVIS can apply for and prepare the special cross-border permit. If the request is confirmed, the customer must provide their credit card information (number, expiration date, security code) to secure the permit. If renters cancel the cross-border request less than 48 working hours before the pick-up date and time, an administrative fee will be charged to their credit card, and the amount of the fee will be the same as the cross-border fee. Notes: Only for rentals with a minimum of 6 consecutive days for car groups G (SGMR) and N (FPMR). Rio Grande and Ushuaia are on an island that shares a border with Chile. To cross to this island portion of Argentina, roads travel through Chile. Only for rentals with a minimum of 6 consecutive days. A border permit is required the cost is 250,000.00 ARP (taxes included). The applicable locations in Argentina: Bahia Blanca, Bariloche, Comodoro Rivadavia, El Calafate, Esquel, Jujuy*, Mendoza, Neuquen, Puerto Madryn, Rio Gallegos, Rio Grande**, San Juan, San Luis, San Martin de Andes, Trelew, Tucuman*, Ushuaia**, Viedma
