For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Original driving licence + IDP( issued under the 1949 Convention)

Only IDP issued under the 1949 Convention will be accepted. An IDP issued under the Paris Convention (1926), Washington Convention (1943) and Vienna Convention (1968) will not be accepted!

Full Driving License issued in Japan

Taiwan Driving License in China + Japan Translation

For customers with driver's licenses issued in Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Slovenia, Monaco and Taiwan are allowed to drive vehicles only when they carry both the original license issued in the above countries/regions and a Japanese Translation of such issued by JAF, or foreign embassies or consular offices in Japan.

Hongkong Driving License in China + IDP( issued under the 1949 Convention)

Only IDP issued under the 1949 Convention will be accepted. An IDP issued under the Paris Convention (1926), Washington Convention (1943) and Vienna Convention (1968) will not be accepted!

Driving License of the Peoples's Republic of China are not allowed for rentals in Japan

For local renters, you need to bring:

Full Driving License issued in Japan
