When returning the car in Nice, France, the service attitude was average. The return point was on the 6th floor, and the narrow staircase made it dangerous. Unable to find a gas station that accepts cash, I returned the car with half a tank, but the FULL TANK settlement fee was significantly high. However, the service attitude and car condition at the time of rental were very satisfactory.
The service at Europcar was excellent, and the car was in great condition! They even upgraded me for free from a BMW 1 to an Audi Q2. The only thing I was dissatisfied with was being charged an extra day's rental for returning the car 18 minutes late. Most other rental companies usually have a grace period of up to an hour. Plus, I had discussed this with the staff on-site, and they said it was fine, but I was still charged for an extra day afterwards.
They arbitrarily use a high exchange rate for USD transactions and have repeated charges without resolving them. They gave us a 5-seater instead of a 7-seater. I'm not sure if there's a worse rental company.
We didn't get the specified model. We originally rented a small car, but were given a much larger car upon pickup. In Europe, large cars are a disaster as parking is hard to find anywhere. There were additional charges like the ecologic fee, which were not disclosed at the time of booking. We ended up paying dozens of extra euros. The pickup point was at quite a distance from the rental office, so we had to drag our luggage all the way there. Nobody mentioned that we could park in a nearby lot when returning the car, so we wasted a lot of time searching for parking spaces. The staff at the return point had a horrible attitude! The person wasn't at their desk when we arrived, made us wait for 10 minutes, then came back and was extremely impatient, didn't cooperate in explaining the fee breakdown, and kept complaining.
The car pickup point is right outside the train station with clear signs, making it very convenient. After registering, you walk 200 meters to the garage, get the car and leave by swiping a card. The return is at the same location; instead of using a card, you enter a code provided earlier and the car is inspected on the spot. What I was unhappy about was the car model change. Despite speaking both French and English, what could I do if they didn't have the car I booked? They gave me a brand new Mercedes for extra money, which nullified the advantages of booking through QEEQ. I might as well have booked directly on a foreign website. I can't say if it was intentional or not.
“Reserved regular car, received electric car. Was forced to upgrade.”
About Europcar:9.0/10
Although I reserved a regular car I was told by the europcar agent that I reserved an electric car and that I need to upgrade if I want a regular car. I upgraded, which meant I had to spendabout 70 euros more for my reservation.
