We were a few minutes late to the airport return location, and the AVIS staff had already left for the day. We called customer service and were told we could use the self-service return by placing the keys in the metal box next to the AVIS office, but we couldn't find this box. We called AVIS customer service for almost an hour with no answer—not during the middle of the night, but just between 9 PM and 10 PM Beijing time. Online customer service was unhelpful, giving irrelevant answers. My friend and I were still looking for the box when it was time to board our flight. Eventually, we sought help from the local airport police to resolve this issue. I hope that in such cases, the car rental service can improve the customer service phone response rate.

The rental company's branch was canceled. It took me 2 hours to find another branch to handle the rental, causing a lot of inconvenience.
