The service attitude was good, but the damage assessment of the vehicle was ridiculous. The rental fees are not expensive, but they strongly pushed insurance upon arrival, 50 euros a day, which is more than the rental fee! I was told that any minor damage would start at 300 euros since I did not buy their insurance because I already had comprehensive insurance and years of overseas driving experience. Three days later, returning the car at the airport, the story unfolded: during the inspection, they found a crack about 2 cm in the left taillight of the car, which is a subcompact Kia, similar to the lowest class of private cars in China like the QQ. The repair cost in China would be around 300-200 yuan. I thought Goldcar would charge 300 euros for sure. Unexpectedly, they calculated a whopping 1077.34 euros, including repair fees, taxes, downtime, etc. It was a total rip-off!! By the way, I never had an accident. The only explanation is that it got hit while parked. Honestly, I suspect they might have intentionally damaged the taillight during inspection, but this is just speculation without evidence. Additionally, the gas station near Malta airport is extremely hidden. I've never encountered an airport that hides the gas station so well, clearly to prevent you from returning the car with a full tank. I couldn't find the gas station and planned to return the car with an empty tank due to a tight schedule. In the end, Goldcar charged an 80-euro refueling fee, not including the fuel cost! It was just a handling fee, completely unreasonable. It’s an absolute scam! Be very careful with them, and you'll need to be extremely vigilant to avoid being ripped off.
The service of this company is extremely poor! I rented a car in Malta for four days and was told at the airport that I must use the driver's credit card. Since my husband did not bring his credit card, I offered to use mine, but the rental company firmly refused. The only solution they offered was to purchase full insurance for 150 euros and use another card for the deposit. I contacted Zuzuche for help, and they mentioned that this requirement was in the terms, but it was not listed on the final order. Helpless, I wanted to cancel the rental, even though I was willing to forfeit the rental fee. However, the rental company charged me 69 euros for a breach of contract, claiming that my failure to pick up the car caused them a loss. The staff's attitude was extremely rude, speaking rapidly and showing impatience when we asked questions, despite knowing we were foreigners. I had no choice but to pay the additional 150 euros to rent the car. Later on, I realized that I had already paid for the four-day rental fee, so why was I charged 69 euros when I was willing to forfeit the rental? Zuzuche offered no help, stating it was the rental company's policy, but this was not mentioned during the booking process. And the requirement for an international driver's credit card was only found by scrolling to the bottom of the confirmation page in tiny text under 'agree to Zuzuche terms.' Such important information is hidden this way! In Italy, I met a couple from Shanghai who couldn't use their credit card because it was not a chip card and had to purchase full insurance. Similarly, in Venice, a couple from Beijing renting in Germany faced a similar issue. Zuzuche, as a middleman, doesn't know and won't inform you about different rental company policies. In case of trouble, they just refer you to the rental company's rules. Because of language issues, I suggest checking the rental company's reviews online and renting directly from their official website, even if it costs more. At least the terms are visible, and you can seek clarifications. If problems arise, you have grounds for discussion. When I mentioned my problems with Zuzuche to the rental company, their response was, 'It has nothing to do with us; we follow our rules.' Based on my experience, first, never rent from Goldcar! Check online reviews to see how bad they are, at least in Malta. Second, rent directly from the rental company's website. Third, if you must use a third-party platform, be very careful and read the terms thoroughly!
1. Overcharging.
2. When returning the car, I visited the airport counter the day before and was told by the staff that someone would be at the parking lot to collect the car at 6 AM. However, on the day of return, I waited until 6:30 AM and no one showed up.
They messed up the pick up and drop off. The confused the registration in the car. They sent an automatic email to say my car had been returned one day earlier than it should have been and it took 1.30 minuets to sort things out when i returned the car. They also tried to push sell thier insurance ..even when i proved i had insurance they tried to say they did not accept American Express credit card. When they did accept it. They are a very bad company
