Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.

In addition to your licence, either a valid and up to date DVLA licence check code or a printed DVLA endorsement record must be provided for all Approved Drivers. These can be obtained from the DVLA website (www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence).

Customers who collect a vehicle from the UK mainland and wish to drive within mainland Europe are required to purchase European Travel Coverage. European Travel Coverage provides the customers with our written consent (VE103B form) to drive the vehicle in the countries stated below and to access 24/7 international breakdown cover through the AA. In all cases, customers must inform the rental branch of their intention to leave the UK mainland with the vehicle and require our authorization. Customers are required to inform the rental branch with no less than 72 hours’ notice prior to collecting the vehicle to arrange their European Travel Coverage. European Travel Coverage is only available to customers paying with a credit card and the vehicle must only be used in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, UK. This includes the destination and any countries customers might travel through. Premium, Luxury and Executive vehicles are excluded from the European Travel Coverage product and are therefore not allowed to leave the country. The charge for European Travel Coverage is £300.00 per rental for all cross border travels. Customers renting from Northern Ireland wishing to cross the border into the Republic of Ireland will only be charged £25.53

I booked an 8 AM pickup, but I saw on Google that the rental company closes at 6 PM. So, I went to pick up the car at 5 PM, and they made an exception for me. I didn't need to return the car early, and their attitude was great! They explained all kinds of insurance options and potential issues we might face. They even upgraded us to a Nissan SUV. Extremely satisfied!

There were many people, but the process was orderly. The desk staff spoke very quickly but remained polite and patient. The actual operating hours of the store (Glasgow Central) were until 7 PM, not 9 PM as stated on the website. I only found out on the return day, which caused urgency. However, I returned the car just a bit over 10 minutes late, and luckily they hadn’t closed yet. Managed to return the car without major issues.

Excellent. From pickup to drop-off, Alamo's service demonstrated the standards of an international company. Although the actual pickup time was significantly delayed compared to the scheduled time, the issue was resolved within my expected timeframe and did not overly disrupt my travel plans. Special thanks to Ben, the staff member responsible for the vehicle return, whose service was warm, words were kind, and work was meticulous.
