The service was quite ordinary. I had bought full insurance from Zuzuche, but when I arrived, they aggressively pushed for more insurance, which wasted a lot of time. After the insurance, they pushed for an e-tag. When the guy asked where we were going, we said Blue Mountains, and he told us not to buy it. It turned out we did incur toll costs, probably a navigation issue. They pushed for various things, including a GPS rental, which was annoying. The car they gave us was an old Nissan with several tens of thousands of kilometers on it and no features. It struggled on hills and consumed a lot of fuel. They pointed out a few damaged parts on the car before we left. The parking lot was full of Corollas when we arrived, which felt intentional. It's like they gave us a bad car because we didn’t buy anything extra. I recommend buying directly at the store to avoid headaches. A few days ago, I rented a Mercedes with full insurance from the official EU website and got a free upgrade. Think about it.
I was very satisfied with Hertz this time. Picking up and returning the car was very convenient. The rental price was very affordable as I purchased the full insurance package from a promotion. After some consideration at the store, I also opted for the towing insurance at 3 AUD per day. The return location in Melbourne is right in the city center, conveniently on the left side of the road, and the return process was quick. But make sure to return the car on time!
We were given a car with over 30,000 kilometers on it, and both the front and rear bumpers had scratches. There was no staff who spoke Chinese, which made communication a bit difficult given our average English skills. However, their attitude was alright. When returning the car, there was a scratch, but since we had full insurance, it was OK after showing it to the store staff.
After all, it is a big company with standardized operations and impeccable service.
There was a small incident when returning the car; the staff mixed up the order, causing a false alarm. Fortunately, the mistake was found and corrected in time.
I rented the car for 4 days, covering approximately 1400 kilometers. Due to the inability to obtain toll and fine information in a timely manner, a pre-authorization of 940 AUD was placed for possible charges. This is understandable, but given today's advanced information technology, I think this could be improved.
The car pickup was relatively smooth. I want to mention two things: they gave me a Qashqai instead of the X-TRAIL I booked, but I let it go. Also, the front tire was underinflated; the staff didn't check it properly.
