Although Stavanger Airport is not very large, all the car rental offices are located in a small building about 50 meters outside the airport, which is fairly easy to find. When I arrived, there was no queue at the AVIS window. I handed over my rental voucher, driver's license, QEEQ certificate, and credit card to the staff, and the process was completed in just a few minutes. The staff repeatedly confirmed my rights and obligations, had me sign in four places, and then handed me the car key. All the rental cars are located on the top floor of a five-story parking garage next to the rental office. Taking the elevator up, it was not too difficult to find the car assigned to me, a nearly new Golf Estate with only 6000 kilometers driven. I requested a diesel car, but the staff said none were available, so I got a gasoline car instead. Over ten days, it was quite fuel-efficient. The car had automatic headlights, automatic wipers, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a massaging driver's seat, and automatic start-stop for the engine. All the necessary features were included, which was excellent. The downside was that due to the small engine, the power loss was quite noticeable when the air conditioning was on, and in some cases, I had to downshift two gears to drive normally.
The pick-up service was excellent. The rental company put the car key, documents, etc., in a bag in advance. You only need to sign some documents and swipe a pre-authorization; it’s very convenient and fast. However, the car was a bit hard to find – it was on the top floor of a parking building opposite the pick-up point. There were no signs in the elevator, making it somewhat difficult to locate. Also, for those who didn’t purchase full insurance, note that some scratches were not marked in the contract. It is recommended to thoroughly inspect the car and confirm with the staff.
The pickup process was confusing due to language barriers. After getting out from the 5th floor, we had to get a ticket, drive down, and insert the ticket again to exit, which took a long time. Returning the car in Molde at 5 PM was challenging due to rain and darkness. We had a hard time getting out of the airport parking lot and had to ask several people for help. Eventually, we found the Hertz parking area, but it was full. We ended up parking next to a Hertz service car and took a photo to finish the process. It was exhausting. Big companies should offer Chinese language services.
“Traveling north from Stavanger, we visited 4 major fjords and ended at the Atlantic Road in Molde.”
About Europcar:8.0/10
We arrived in Stavanger at 11 PM. There was someone at the counter waiting for us, and contrary to an earlier email, we weren't charged an overtime fee. The car pickup procedure was completed very quickly.
This car rental experience was terrible. First, the rental company replaced the originally booked SUV without any detailed explanation, unlike other rental companies. They didn't even check the car themselves and let me inspect it and figure it out on my own, which took a long time. They also pre-charged me over 900 NOK for fuel, but I haven't received a refund even after refueling. The two most frustrating issues were: first, their customer service phone was always busy, making it impossible to reach them for any help. Second, when we planned to return the car in Trondheim due to a change in our departure time, we were told by the staff during pickup that it would be no problem. However, when we arrived at the return location at 16:00, the store was already closed. The addresses of the two alternative return points provided by the store were missing or incorrect. After asking around, we found one return point at a gas station that was closed and another at a hotel that had been under renovation and closed for a year. We had no choice but to drive 40 kilometers to the nearest airport to return the car. The airport staff said they couldn't handle the issue, and we ended up spending six hours and a few hundred NOK on an airport shuttle back to our hotel, almost reaching midnight without any food or drink. We were extremely upset and will never rent an Avis car through your website again. What a terrible company!
The experience at the car rental location at Stavanger Airport in Norway was extremely unpleasant! AVIS car rental company's malicious deceit and dishonesty were infuriating!! Initially, we had rented two station wagons through the Zuzuche platform: one was a manual Passat station wagon, and the other was an automatic Audi A6 station wagon, both for a one-week one-way rental.
At the car pick-up, we were told that the A6 was not available. We were offered a Golf station wagon instead, without any discount, and they falsely claimed that the trunk size was the same, assuring us it would be sufficient. We were naturally displeased, as it could not fit our luggage, and it was obviously a different car category! Discussions to switch to an A6 at the next city also failed. We sought help from Zuzuche, and their customer service, being very experienced, advised requesting a written statement from the store clerk confirming the inability to provide a car of the same grade and taking a photo. Following this, AVIS staff suddenly agreed to provide a station wagon of the same grade!!! This was extremely frustrating and wasted over an hour of our time! Furthermore, after returning home, we found that we were overcharged by more than 3,000 Norwegian Krone compared to the original rental fee! As of writing this review, Zuzuche is still actively coordinating, but there has been no resolution yet. Such poor service and dishonesty from a major car rental company like AVIS is very disappointing!! We will not patronize them again!
Our experience at the AVIS car rental at Stavanger Airport in Norway was extremely unpleasant! AVIS's malicious deceit and lack of integrity were infuriating!! We initially rented two station wagons through the Zuzuche platform: one was a manual Passat station wagon and the other was an automatic Audi A6 station wagon, both for a week with a different drop-off location.
However, when picking up the cars, we were told that there was no Audi A6 available. They offered us a Golf station wagon instead, without a price reduction, and argued that the trunks of both cars are the same size, assuring us that it would be fine. Of course, we were unhappy because it couldn't fit our luggage and they are clearly not in the same category! Attempts to swap to an Audi A6 in the next city also failed. We sought help from Zuzuche, and their experienced customer service suggested we ask the AVIS staff to write and photograph a statement that they couldn’t provide a car of the same category. Suddenly, the AVIS staff said they could provide a station wagon of the same category after all!!!! It was extremely frustrating and had already wasted over an hour of our time! Furthermore, after returning home, we found that the rental charges were 3000 Norwegian Kroner more than the original rental order! As of this review, Zuzuche is still actively coordinating, with no resolution yet. The service and integrity of a big car rental company like AVIS are very disappointing!! We will not be using them again!
“Stavanger is perfect for driving to Pulpit Rock and Kjeragbolten, an amazing experience.”
About AVIS:10.0/10
Good experience, rented a Ford compact but was given a BMW compact, which was easier to drive and more comfortable. Additionally, there was no hard sell for insurance, thank you to the rental company. The only confusion was that there were no staff present during the return; we had to return the keys at the counter, so the car condition will be decided by the rental company. I hope they are fair.
The rental car counter at Stavanger Airport is easy to find, and I got the keys in less than 5 minutes. After being told the parking spot, I went to the nearby parking garage and drove off. Very convenient. Returning the car is self-service; just make sure to wash it and fill up the gas. Park in the specified garage and drop the keys in the small iron box at the counter. The trust level between people abroad is very high.
Even though it was already early morning when we picked up the car, the rental company staff stayed late to assist us. We truly appreciate their effort, even though there was an extra fee.
