They charged a bunch of extra fees and didn't explain what they were for. There were ADM fees, sales tax, and VRF fees, but I have no idea what those are!!!!

AVIS is really terrible!! We booked a car, but it wasn't available, so they just gave us another one saying it's the same class, even though they had already pre-authorized my credit card. We had no choice! No one checked the car with us. When we said the vehicle showed oil was low, the mechanic pushed it off to the office saying they hadn't reset it, and the office just pushed it back. It was an endless back-and-forth. And the rental platform just acts as a broker and didn't confirm whether the specific car was actually available. When we returned the car, they didn't check it either and just directly charged the pre-authorized amount from my credit card. I found out they overcharged by a few thousand dollars, claiming we exceeded the mileage limit. Thankfully, I had taken a photo of the odometer when we picked up the car. It was 35,000 km but their bill stated 34,000, an extra 1,000 km. They didn't inform us or verify and directly charged us. I complained two days ago, but no response yet. Luckily, I'm still in the country and planning to go directly to the store to discuss this.

Insurance services should be informed in advance. Fuel level at pickup was a quarter tank, but required to be full at return?

It was easy to find the AVIS counter inside the terminal at Avalon Airport. The staff at the counter were very helpful. When I mentioned my preference for Toyota cars, they immediately swapped my initial reservation for a Camry, and reminded me that the car had a foot brake, which was very encouraging for me as a first-time right-hand drive driver. The return process was also very pleasant; the staff just asked if the tank was full and cheerfully said 'OK'.

The outside of the vehicle appeared as though it wasn't touched from the last renter. Insects all over the front of the car and mud in the wheel wells. Interior was fine.
