Was given initially a Citroen Cactus, requested for car change due to the dirty car. Marciano of the AVIS counter was super helpful, he gave us a equivalent Volvo C40 as he recommended. The car was clean and excellent. Superb drive around Amsterdam thanks to the car. Fuel efficient travels, hassle free. Quick pickup and return times. Thank you AVIS, thank you Marciano. Keep up the good work.
I received a Link&go which is a high tech/computerized car. No explanation regarding the use of the car or the computer.
At drop off the man did not know how to work the computer either and was asking us where he could find the total mileage? We lost precious time there!!
The rental company made me purchase another insurance without my permission, as the contract was in Dutch, and I initially thought it was a deposit. 200 euros feels like a rip-off. Contacted the rental service but they said since the contract was already signed, there was no way to get a refund.
A reminder to other car renters: if you need full insurance for the car, it's best not to buy it from the rental app but directly from the rental counter. Otherwise, you might end up with two insurances. I've rented cars through the service 9 times, and 3-4 times I ended up with double insurance. The rental service should take some responsibility for this.

Good staff, but the drop off after hours is just terrible as you have to park on the street and pay for parking in downtown Amsterdam. Parking is very expensive and there are no parking places. Drove around in circles in the dark in heavy traffic for a while, I then decided to buy (expensive) hotel parking for the night.
Also, we did not get the hybrid we ordered, so petrol fees were higher than expected

We got a nice car, Hyundai Tucson, a fairly economical hybrid SUV. It was in great condition. Service staff was brilliant.
Drop off in Salzburg was a terrible experience as Avis is located in some kind of mini mall with no obvious drop off location.

Besides, the person in the counter sold us in a sneaky way an extra insurance, while I said we had already paid everything and we had an insurance already.
She (Gaby) didn’t explain to us that we would have to pay 164 eur extra on arrival day (if she had said so, we would have noticed the mistake / trick)

Avoid partners like Avis, the service is terrible and customers may extend that perception to you as well
When I returned the car, I was asked where the back tray is, and telling me I will have to pay a fine, since it was missing. I answered it wasn't there when I picked the car and the guy said I should have mentioned it when they gave me the car. A part which you cannot see is missing. eventually they "let us go"...
The process of picking up the car took too long. There was a very long queue that moved very slowly. When we were finally served the person, although very nice and helpful, answered the phone while assisting us and had a 10 min conversation with another customer. He also was interrupted by other members of staff and had to stop serving us to speak to them - not great customer service!
