It was okay. After driving 800 kilometers, the engine warning light turned on. I had to drive back to exchange the car, which was quite troublesome.

There were suggestions for upgrades and selling insurance, which was quite annoying. Since we didn't accept the upsell, we got a car with very basic features. The booking included fuel, but we were told it wasn't included when we got to the store. After a long negotiation, they finally agreed. The booking price was $383, but we were charged $390 at the store, claiming it was some sort of fee. Though the amount was small, it was never mentioned during booking, which was very frustrating. Please communicate this issue with Thrifty in detail; it is better to be clear during booking.

The front desk service was very average, no smiles throughout. I booked a Ford Explorer 7-seater SUV, but they said they didn't have the car I reserved and gave me a Hyundai of the same class and size. Although I wasn't happy, I accepted it since they didn't have the car I wanted. However, when I went to pick up the car, I found out it was a 5-seater with a small trunk, barely fitting our three suitcases. I insisted on changing the car and argued with the front desk, as it was clearly not the same size or class. After some discussion, they changed it to a 7-seater Dodge. Although it was still smaller than the Explorer, it could fit all our luggage, so I accepted it. I forgot to refuel the car before returning it and offered to pay for a tank of gas, but they charged me $140! They calculated the gas at $9.9 per gallon plus labor costs. This was extremely expensive, and they didn't mention such high fees when I picked up the car. But since it was my fault for forgetting to refuel, I let it go.

1. They forced me to buy personal insurance, otherwise, they wouldn't give me the car. When I requested to contact the rental company by phone, they said there were many people waiting in line and they could only process their rentals after finishing mine, forcing me to buy the insurance. According to their minimum insurance requirement, I had to pay an additional USD 161. 2. I booked the car with a credit card, and upon picking it up, they required a USD 200 deposit, stating it would be returned 2-3 business days after returning the car. However, it has been more than 10 days since I returned the car and I still haven't received the deposit.

The car rental company kept trying to sell insurance. After repeatedly declining, they gave me a Chevrolet SPARK. When I noticed this during pickup, I went back to negotiate and they reluctantly agreed to change the car, but they only provided a small Nissan hatchback. I originally requested a Ford Focus for its larger space as I needed it for a long trip, but they ignored this. The car was in poor condition, dirty, and had unrepaired dents on the door, which affected my travel experience!

“Picked up the car in Salt Lake City, drove 4000 kilometers across the West, and returned it in Los A”
About Thrifty: 6.0 /10
There weren't many people in line, but the process took quite some time. They tried to sell me additional insurance options, which I declined based on the rental company’s policy. Since I was renting from Salt Lake City and returning in Los Angeles, it seemed they couldn't find a car with California plates and tried to give me a downgraded model, which I refused because safety is paramount for long trips. Eventually, the manager managed to arrange a slightly upgraded Ford SUV, which was pretty good. There are gas stations near the return location, and since they require refueling within 10 miles, that was fulfilled, so I didn’t buy the fuel option from the company as their gas prices were a bit high.
