The service was excellent. We arrived late, and even though it was after their closing time, they waited for us. We had to switch vehicles because we didn't have two credit cards, but we were still very satisfied. Highly recommend!
When picking up the car at Hertz, they said only an automatic Ford Fiesta 1.0 was available. It didn't seem like the car I reserved, so I paid an extra 140 euros to upgrade to a Volvo V60 Diesel D4 and accepted it. This was because the three major German brands don't allow their cars to leave Germany. At the Vienna airport return counter, a female clerk took the car back without giving any receipt and had a very poor attitude. To avoid complications, I called the Berlin airport rental counter right away. A man named Daniel answered and said he would handle it the next day and send me an email (which I never received). I even had him confirm with the Vienna counter. In the end, the bill showed the return time three days later than the actual return, and I was charged significantly more. Additionally, they charged me in dollars instead of euros using an unfair exchange rate (the receipt showed euros, but they charged 1.14 when the actual rate was 1.10). Always insist on being billed in euros.
The store had incorrect information about their operating hours. They actually close at 4 PM on weekends, but the rental site showed 8 PM. The staff stayed three extra hours for me, which I initially appreciated and was about to tip them. However, there are two major issues. First, I booked a Mercedes E-Class wagon, but I was given a Jeep Cherokee. They're not even close to being equivalent. Second, the staff gave me the wrong parking spot number, and it took my family two hours to find the car in the lot. The store had no emergency contact options, which was extremely frustrating. Although the rental site did try to assist with Hertz's roadside assistance, it was almost useless. Hertz's customer service kept doubting our intelligence, assuming we were on the wrong level and not admitting their own mistake, and even claimed communication issues with us. It was infuriating.
The service was professional and straightforward, with a warm attitude. We booked a compact car but were upgraded to a Range Rover for free, which included a built-in navigation system that was very helpful for our trip. However, since we had never driven this type of car before, it would have been beneficial if someone could have given us a basic introduction to the unfamiliar vehicle, to help us drive it smoothly.
HERTZ provided excellent service, explaining the rental details thoroughly. Returning the car was also very convenient as they have many locations! The car was relatively new.
