Our flight arrived in San Jose at 9:40 PM. The car rental location is directly across the street from the airport, very convenient with all major rental companies in one place. Possibly because it was late, the line for picking up the car was short. However, there was no Ford FOCUS available as originally booked, and the counter didn't inform us in advance. We were told to choose from the available cars when we got there. There were only a few Mitsubishis and Chevrolets, all quite small. We eventually chose a Mitsubishi. The car was in decent condition but had a very loud engine noise, not sure why.
The car rental process was smooth. At the parking lot, a lady introduced Sonatas, Optimas, and Camrys to choose from. I wanted to drive a Fusion, so I asked if there was one available. She said she would check for me. After a while, she brought a 2015 Fusion. The car had about 14,000 miles on it and was in relatively new condition. Returning the car was also smooth; I drove into the parking lot, left the keys under the front windshield, and someone came over to print a receipt, completing the process.
The service from the rental company was mediocre. When we arrived, the system was down. We asked when it would be fixed, but the staff didn't know. It took over two hours to get resolved.
At the rental store, I showed the staff the English translation of AVIS, paid the deposit, and got the FORD ESCAPE SUV smoothly. The American staff were very professional and friendly throughout the process.
The company with the most renters, very fast processing speed with no forced upselling. The procedures are simple and there are many vehicle options. We chose a new car that had only 1030 miles on it, the car was in good condition, and we had a safe trip.
The inspections were very thorough, and the car provided was relatively new. However, the choice of models was limited, possibly because the San Jose airport is small. There were various upsell attempts. The NISSAN provided was new but performed just average; the highway driving felt unstable.
Everything else was fine, but finding lost items was a hassle and I couldn't find anyone to help. The internal system was a bit chaotic during checkout and they almost charged me extra. If you don't speak the language well, it can be really frustrating.
