It transpired that the car allocated to us needed a service so after a long delay we were given a backup vehicle.
We received rather confusing information about our liabilities regarding accidents/ damage/breakdowns and for peace of mind we paid much more than anticipated in order to reduce these liabilities.
On inspecting the hire car we observed scratches along the length of one side and numerous marks elsewhere plus black marks all over the roof lining.
I returned to the reception to find it unmanned and after sometime I rang the two numbers left at the counter. Eventually someone arrived and we inspected the car together and obtained a signature to confirm our observations.
This long delay resulted in our arriving on the east coast with all accommodation taken and our only option was to drive for two more hours and take a family cabin which twice what we expected to pay.
This is by far the worst car hire experience we've ever experienced and wouldn't dream of using Europcar in the future.
No complaints with Europcar, excellent service at the desk. Made the collection process really simple and easy. Even though we got given a slightly different car than requested, the car we got was perfect. Brand new with all the extras. A real good quality car meaning our road trips was very comfortable.

Reduce star as the car i booked is not the same model as i wanted. I know with the stated t&c “similiar car” but i am expecting I will get the same model car i have booked but in fact most of the time when hiring a car other model car will be provided on the day so what is the point of showing model on the booking scree page. It kind of upset if the car that i get on the day is worse than what i booked.
We did not like the extras we have to pay. Would prefer to have all paid up front and taking the car will be much easier.
I hope all bookings will ge all inclusive next time. Seems like we have to add on so many little things. Adds up to the cost which is hidden in the initial booking. Leaves a bit of a bad taste.
The counter staff were amazing. Knew their shit, no confusion, 10 out of 10
