Our group of 8 rented two cars in Venice. When booking, we selected the option to allow cross-border travel to Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia & Herzegovina. The customer service of the rental platform had informed us that this rental company permits cross-border travel and even sent us an email reminder about the policy. At the time of pickup, we clearly informed the staff about the countries we planned to visit and inquired about any cross-border fees. The staff did not charge any additional fees and handed over the cars to us. However, when we tried to enter Bosnia & Herzegovina from Montenegro, we were denied entry due to missing vehicle documentation from the rental company. We attempted entry at two different border checkpoints, both with the same result, which seriously disrupted our itinerary. Abandoning our Bosnia & Herzegovina trip would have cost us three nights of hotel bookings as well as incurred additional expenses for three more nights in Croatia. We had no choice but to spend an entire day driving back to Dubrovnik, Croatia, and rent two new cars for €400 to re-enter Bosnia & Herzegovina. Our originally planned circular road trip was interrupted, and we drove over 10 extra hours. After contacting the platform to request assistance, we received no response from the rental company. We are extremely disappointed with their service. If you're planning to travel to non-EU countries, avoid this rental company at all costs!
Our group of 8 rented two cars in Venice. At the time of booking, we specifically indicated that we needed to cross the borders into Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The customer service at the platform confirmed that this rental company allowed border crossing and even sent us a reminder email about the border-crossing permissions. When picking up the cars, we explicitly informed the staff of the countries we planned to visit and inquired about border-crossing fees. The staff did not charge any additional fees and handed over the cars to us. However, when entering Bosnia and Herzegovina from Montenegro, we were denied entry because the rental vehicles lacked the necessary entry documentation. We tried two different border points but were met with the same issue, which severely disrupted our itinerary. Abandoning our planned journey in Bosnia and Herzegovina would have resulted in losing the cost of 3 nights' hotel reservations and incurring additional costs for 3 extra nights in Croatia. As a result, we had no option but to spend an entire day driving back to Dubrovnik, Croatia, where we spent 400 euros renting two cars again to re-enter Bosnia and Herzegovina. This caused our originally planned road trip loop to be interrupted, and we ended up driving more than 10 extra hours. We contacted the rental platform to request the rental company to address the issue, but we have not received any response. We are extremely disappointed with the service of this rental company. If you plan to cross into non-EU countries, avoid this rental company at all costs!!!
The counter staff in Venice were very busy when we went to pick up our vehicle but they worked quickly to look after everybody as fast as possible.
The only thing I thought could be improved would be signage directing people to the proper area to fill out the appropriate forms.
About QEEQ:10.0/10
Everything at Easyrentcars worked flawlessly.
We had no issues during the entire rental process.
I did contact their customer service right after I booked to confirm we should expect no additional charges when picking up the vehicle. They promptly replied to me query and correctly told us what to expect.
“Good but not the car type I reserved....very disappointed that I got a wagon instead of a minivan.”
About Alamo:8.0/10
Very disappointed that you consider a station wagon and a minivan to be the same class of cars. I booked my car very early to make sure you get it right. If you didn’t have a minivan available you should have given me a better car, not a worse one. I was tired, had three kids with me and no time to argue with the personnel but this is two times that I am renting a car in Italy and I am extremely disappointed with the lack of customer orientation those people have.
I clarified prior to booking the car to make sure that I can drive the car into Bosnia and I even clarified again when I picked up the car. Everyone said there won't be any issues, but I was not able to enter Bosnia when I came to the boarder. It's in the law that a original green card is needed to enter Bosnia. Alamo just gave me a copy and said it will be good enough. I had to leave the car and get a taxi to Bosnia and rent another car. I do want a refund on the car.
