I rented a car in Phuket from July 25th to 28th and extended for another day on the 29th. The store was easy to find, marked with a purple YESAWAY sign, and the process for picking up and returning the car was quite convenient. However, I booked a Nissan Sunny online, but was given another Nissan model, AMLERA, which was quite old and had driven over 100,000 kilometers. When I picked up the car, I was informed that it had a 1.2L engine, which is relatively small. Given the hilly and mountainous roads in Phuket, I asked the staff how a small-engine car would fare. They assured me it would be fine and that even with six people it could handle the climb to the Big Buddha. So, I took the car. However, the uphill roads from Phuket Airport to Phuket Town and Patong Beach were numerous and steep, and even with just my family of three (my 12-year-old child is not heavy), the car struggled significantly. It was really difficult to climb the longer, gradual slopes, which made me feel the car wouldn't make it. Phuket's roads are narrow with only two lanes, and the car could only go a few miles per hour uphill, while motorbikes zoomed past us. It was too hard. One day we planned to visit the Big Buddha, but the car couldn't make it up the steep hill. It stopped in the middle, and even started to roll back a bit, which was terrifying. I had to brake and slowly turn around to go back down. This car really disappointed me. Other than that, everything was fine, but you definitely need to rent at least a 1.6L car in Phuket, otherwise, it's not feasible.
I've been traveling around Thailand for 5 years and rented cars more than 6 times, and this trip was especially disappointing. First: On the 4th day of this 13-day rental, the car wouldn't start due to a battery issue. After calling customer service, we were told roadside assistance would arrive in an hour. Two hours later, no one had arrived. We contacted them again, and they responded that the assistance couldn't find us and went back. How is that possible when it's a 50-minute drive from Phuket Town to Patong? 1. They didn't call my Thai number, Chinese number, or contact me on WeChat. 2. Are they stupid? 3. They probably didn't even leave. 4. They're just lying!
After more than 3 hours, the roadside assistance finally arrived on a motorcycle with a power bank! When that didn't work, they called for a tow truck, which took another hour! By the time we got home, it was already late at night, and the four of us, including two elderly and two children, were waiting on the roadside for hours! Two days later, the same problem occurred again, and it took another 3 hours to resolve! I requested a car or battery replacement. They eventually agreed to replace the battery.
Finally, someone came to replace the battery, but they brought a larger battery that couldn't be properly fitted, making it unsafe! The next morning at 10 AM, they replaced it with a compatible battery, which then worked fine, but it delayed my schedule and ruined my mood! Second: Regarding the service, the supplier claimed the battery issue was because Chinese renters don't turn off the lights, which is not only discriminatory but also unprofessional. If Zuzuche doesn't take strict action against this company, I'll be the first to delete you!
