The process was very simple, but the rental staff will routinely ask if you want to add insurance or pre-purchase a tank of gas, etc. I understand it's their job, just say NO and they won't pressure you. There was almost no waiting, and the whole process, including getting the car, took about 15 minutes, which was very smooth.
Alamo on Oahu is about a ten-minute drive from Honolulu International Airport, with a shuttle bus provided by Alamo. However, the driver of the return shuttle to the airport misunderstood our accent and dropped us off at the international departure hall, although we were actually flying with Iceland Air to the Big Island. Iceland Air's counter is next to the Hawaiian Airlines entrance in an inconspicuous row of low buildings. We walked for about fifteen minutes from the international departure hall, asking for directions along the way. Luckily, we had plenty of time, but it was still quite stressful.
The wait time in line wasn't long; we were attended to right after the previous customer finished. Since we had just arrived in Hawaii, we weren't very familiar with the car rental process and policies. We asked a lot of questions, and the staff patiently answered all of them. It was our first time picking up a car, so we had many questions about the car's condition. Thanks to the staff's patience, we felt confident enough to start our trip.
The service staff kept trying to add extras even when I said no. She wasted half an hour. There were only Camaros, not Mustangs. The trunk was very small, so I ended up paying an extra 800 RMB to switch to a Jeep Cherokee. If I had known, I would have booked a Cherokee in China for 1100 RMB less. It feels like they're taking advantage of Chinese customers. I won't choose ALAMO again.
There is a shuttle bus at the airport, and the staff are very friendly. Remember, returning the car within two hours after the scheduled time is not a problem. Returning the car is very simple; just drive into the yard. Although it’s a small company, it is worth recommending.
Rented from Alamo twice; they don't add extra insurance or anything. I think they're good.
