The paperwork took an hour. Initially, they said there was no automatic transmission available, then they gave me a diesel Renault. The problem with this big car was that I couldn't drive it out of the parking lot, so I had to come back and exchange it. It was quite a hassle. Even though I had already bought full insurance, they still made me buy insurance. Since I don't understand Spanish, they said it was a deposit that would be refunded. I was with my child, so I signed it. Later, when I asked the rental company, they confirmed I already had full insurance. Just a reminder, do not sign if the amount doesn't match when you pick up the car!
Renting a car in Europe is actually quite convenient, as long as you have all the necessary documents, the process is very quick. However, the rental office may upsell insurance and vehicle upgrades. Personally, I think buying full insurance at the rental office is necessary when traveling abroad—it’s more convenient than dealing with claims back home after an accident abroad. So I purchased it. As for the vehicle upgrade, since the available upgraded model was the new Mercedes C200D, and as a car enthusiast, I couldn't resist choosing it. Overall, spending money always feels worth it.
The car rental customer service was a Spanish lady who tried to sell me additional insurance. Despite me showing proof that I had already purchased full coverage, she refused to look at it and exaggeratedly claimed, 'What you bought is yours, what I recommend is mine. If you didn't buy it...!' We firmly and repeatedly emphasized that we would not purchase additional insurance. We resolutely said NO! Then she got a bit angry and ignored me. After a standoff, I asked if I could get the car keys. She responded that it wasn't 3 PM yet, which was my scheduled pickup time. So, I stepped back a few steps, waited for a few minutes, and received a pickup note or possibly a contract. She vaguely pointed to the side with her hand. I assumed I had to get the keys from the neighboring window, but the lady at the neighboring window told me to go to the parking lot at the back to get the car! Apart from the unpleasant experience with the insurance upselling, everything else was fine. If I had accepted her insurance offer, the total cost would have reached 600 Euros, which is double the price!
I placed my car rental order at least two months in advance, yet I had to wait over an hour to complete the paperwork and our chosen model wasn't available. Despite booking so early, they switched our car and made us wait so long. I have no idea what you guys are doing.
