There were more people in line here than at any other rental company, mostly Chinese people, probably because their promotions in China were quite successful. The explanation about the vehicle categories was not very satisfactory.
The receptionist noticed our luggage and suggested upgrading the vehicle for an additional charge. After some negotiation, we agreed to pay an extra 300 dollars. When we saw the Chevrolet in the garage, it looked as big as a tank, which shocked us. With the help of the garage staff, we switched to a smaller Ford Explorer of the same class. Although it's an SUV, it felt a bit underpowered on inclines.
The service attitude was very good, but the queue time for picking up the car was very long, over an hour. I pre-selected a JEEP but was told only a Hyundai SANTAFE was available, which was quite disappointing. I couldn't even take the expected photo with the car.
The car was not filled up with gas when I picked it up, only had 1/8 of a tank, and it wasn't mentioned. If I hadn't said anything, returning the car could have been a big problem. Be cautious! The child safety seat was very problematic; it was something you could get at a supermarket for a few bucks, yet they charged $70 for an 8-day rental. Other than that, everything else was fine, so just be extra careful.
The staff at the store were dedicated, responsible, and enthusiastic. They provided detailed information about the car condition, vehicle usage, breakdown alerts, and driving tips in the US. Renting a car in the US is very common, but the rental process itself is quite interesting and enjoyable!
Forced to buy insurance, couldn't pick up the car without it! Ended up buying insurance worth over 800 for nothing, whereas a friend who booked with AVIS at the same time didn't have to buy any insurance!
The Alamo company is quite good. There are plenty of vehicle options, and they are relatively new. The Jeep I rented had only driven a bit over 2000 kilometers. There were no additional charges or upselling. Just take your printed rental confirmation and proceed directly to complete the paperwork. The printed contract is the same as the rental confirmation.
