The car pickup and return process was relatively smooth. The car had around 100,000 kilometers on it. I rented it for 15 days. The day before returning the car, it wouldn't start in Kutaisi. The main issue was that no one answered the phone after I tried calling the rental company three times. I was really anxious. Finally, after more than an hour, someone returned my call. At 9 PM, a technician came and helped me replace the battery. It's concerning that such a large company maintains its cars so poorly.
The pick up was smooth. Customer service once on phone was sketchy due to language barrier as they dint speak english. Drop was weird as my wife had to go inside and call the person. The person was trying to get money from me for cleaning the car which is unheard of.
The actual vehicle was a Honda Insight, using 95 unleaded petrol. The car looked pretty new with less than 50,000 kilometers on the odometer. The pick-up process took about 15 minutes, during which they explained the precautions and restricted areas without pushing any extra insurance. The car inspection during pick-up was thorough, with all scratches marked, and when returning the car, they just took a quick look and found no issues without comparing all the scratches. Overall, the experience was good.
The order was confirmed for car pickup in Tbilisi, Georgia, and dropoff in Baku, Azerbaijan. However, at the pickup, I was informed that I couldn't drop the car off in Baku, forcing the order to be canceled. Not sure if it was the rental company's fault or the platform's.
The staff at this branch located near Freedom Square exhibited poor professionalism and used rude and impolite language. I had to change the car model (as I was informed by the staff that the original model wouldn't be suitable for reaching many places) and extended my rental period until 11:00 AM on August 8, 2024. The return time was clearly stated in the contract. However, on the morning of August 7, I received an early call from a staff member, reminding me to return the car. When I pointed out the contract's specified return time, they showed no apology and hung up immediately. The attitude of the staff throughout made it seem like they were reluctantly doing charity work rather than providing a service. It gave the impression that they were dissatisfied with their job. This was by far the worst experience I've had with AVIS, truly difficult to put into words.
