The service throughout was friendly, and there was no excessive upselling of insurance. They merely pointed out that our insurance was inadequate but didn't press further once we mentioned we had purchased it on a domestic platform. One shortcoming, however, was that the staff did not check the tire pressure. After driving for a day, the tire pressure warning light came on. Initially, we thought the tire might be punctured, but upon inspection, it turned out the pressure was too high. After releasing some air and resetting the gauge, everything was fine.
The Budget at the airport is fine, always pretty good. The car was brand new with only 1000 kilometers. However, when I returned the car at a location in the city, the staff was indifferent and had a bad attitude. Also, after I returned the car, they didn't update the system in time, so it still showed that the car was being rented. This caused issues when I tried to rent another car, because one passport and one visa can only rent one vehicle. It took me two hours to sort it out. The city location was irresponsible. Bad review!
The car provided for pickup was an Elantra, and its condition was quite good. It has low fuel consumption, making it completely sufficient for travel around Riyadh without adding mileage. Most parking spots are in free parking lots.
Budget at Riyadh T1 is extremely disappointing. Despite having paid through the platform and presenting the pickup document, I was still forced to make a payment before being allowed to take the car. After nearly an hour of negotiation, I had no choice but to accept. The vehicle provided was not of an equivalent category, significantly smaller, and the air conditioning system was subpar. Be cautious of Riyadh Budget.
In El Aura, there are only two car rental companies. I was worried there might be no cars available on-site, so I booked in advance. The advance booking process was quick, and they pre-authorized 2000 riyals. After completing the process, you’ll get a receipt and then head to the parking lot to find the staff and pick up the car. There are no signs in the parking lot, so it took some time to locate the staff. The staff members are sitting inside the cars, which makes them a bit hard to find. The car was quite new, and after the staff checked and registered the car, you’re ready to go.
Please be cautious and avoid choosing AlUla Budget. If any accidents occur, communication and resolution are nearly impossible—they only demand compensation and then rush you away. Right next door is Lumi, the largest local car rental company in Saudi Arabia; their prices are even cheaper, and I recommend booking directly via their official website.
During the car return process, the staff's attitude was extremely rude, and I was personally threatened, with them claiming they would call the police to detain me and prevent me from leaving. The issue stemmed from a minor scratch, for which they demanded 350 SAR in compensation. After paying with my card, I requested a receipt and pictures to pursue reimbursement later. By then, my flight had arrived, and passengers were already queuing. The staff became visibly impatient and tried to hurry me away. After repeatedly insisting, the staff's behavior turned hostile, saying, 'You must go. If you don’t go, I will not send you.' They later added, 'IF YOU DON’T LEAVE, I WILL CALL THE POLICE TO CATCH YOU, THEN YOU CANNOT LEAVE ANYMORE.'
Afterward, I sought help from the police, but they couldn’t assist as they did not speak English. Airport staff intervened, but the car rental staff insisted I delete any photos, claiming I took them without permission, even threatening me by saying this was illegal.
In the end, I almost missed my flight, and the issue was not resolved. Nearly three weeks have passed, and I still haven’t received the damage photos from the car rental company. Efforts by Zuzuche to mediate have also been unsuccessful, and the insurance claim process hasn’t progressed. Throughout the ordeal, the car rental company has shown no signs of apology.
When picking up the car, it felt unprepared. The car was retrieved from the city, we waited for more than half an hour, the car was very old, had over 50,000 kilometers on it, and the seats were very dirty.
