Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers will need to provide a physical full driving license in their name with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 2 year(s).

When you cross the borders of Italy into one or more of the permitted countries, your rental will be subject to a cross border fee between EUR 6.00 and EUR 7.20 per day, for a maximum of 4 days. The cross-border fee will apply no matter how many times you cross borders between permitted countries.Specific policies and charges are subject to the local rental company's regulations.

Taking rental cars to the countries that are not listed in Free of Charge, Conditional, Paid is not allowed.

The wait time while queuing for the car was very long, and the staff's efficiency needs improvement. We booked a BMW 2 Series, but they claimed it wasn't available and offered us a POLO instead, unless we paid extra for a different car. However, when we picked up the car, the BMW 2 Series was clearly parked next to the POLO, which felt deceptive. The car return location was also hard to find; we returned the car at Rome airport and drove around in circles before finally figuring it out with the help of airport staff. Overall, we will not rent from AVIS again.
