I reserved a Mercedes Benz B-Class car five months in advance, prepaying most of the rental fee and insurance, leaving only a €48 balance. The booking page only displayed this model in the same category. However, when I went to pick up the car, I was told that they didn't have this model, and I could only take a Renault Scenic. I asked if there were any BMW, Audi, or similar models available, and was told that these brands are considered premium and would require an additional €20 per day. I pointed out that the Mercedes B-Class I'd booked was also a premium brand, but the staff insisted they could only offer a Renault. Because the full insurance I bought from the rental platform was past the refund period and switching to another rental company on the spot was uncertain and costly, I had no choice but to take the car. To make matters worse, the remaining balance increased to €70, even though the contract clearly stated €48. They claimed their system showed the tax-inclusive price as €70. After reluctantly picking up the car, I contacted the rental platform's customer service, who informed me that the extra charge was not tax, but a fee for picking up the car 30 minutes early. Charging €22 for 30 minutes early pickup? I'll never rent from this company again. They misled customers by advertising a premium brand price for a Mercedes B but provided a standard brand car and charged more.
There was no queue when picking up the car, it was just us, but the process was slow because they had to check a lot of information. Returning the car was relatively faster. It's the third day since we returned home, and we haven't received the deposit back yet, which is a bit concerning.
Overcharging problem: I originally booked an X3, but was told there were no cars available at pick-up. They gave me a 5-series instead and the Hertz staff clearly told me it was cheaper than the X3. However, I was charged an extra 646 Swiss francs.
During the queue, they didn't process orders by sequence but rather recommended other car models and insurance plans. The key issue was that they didn't tell me this small car uses diesel, which almost led to a big mistake.
The front desk was extremely unprofessional and had a bad attitude. We chose a longer Ford Mondeo because we had four pairs of skis for our children's training in the French glaciers. However, we were given a Citroën C4 at the airport, which is 26 cm shorter than the Mondeo. We were worried it wouldn't fit the skis. Although we could fit the skis by laying down one seat, we were two adults and three children, and taking up one seat for the skis meant one of the kids couldn't sit. We asked to change the car model, but the front desk said there were no other options. Calling the rental company's customer service didn’t help either. Hertz just didn't care. The rental company told us to accept it first and prove later if it was a downgraded model. I don't understand why they couldn't confirm it immediately, given the clear documentation the company should have on the vehicles. In any case, Hertz didn't provide the necessary proof, insisted the Citroën and Mondeo were the same class, and refused to change the cars. We spent over two hours dealing with this at the front desk, which was very unpleasant. The staff were indifferent to us as Chinese customers. Eventually, a manager came and told us it was a seven-seater, which resolved the issue. However, earlier on, my husband had asked the staff if it was a seven-seater, and they had said no. This indicates poor professionalism and service.
The flight arrived late, and the front desk just gave us the keys and told us to get the car. The staff at the pickup point had already left, and the front desk didn't explain where to get the safety seat, causing us a lot of trouble.
Like: The car given was good. Dislike: My plane had reached early in Geneva. Therefore I went to ask if we could pick up the car earlier.
Actual time on rental 1500hrs. I touched down at 1230hrs and went to the counter to ask if I could get a car at 1300hrs.
The first counter staff told me No and told me to come back 1500hrs.
So me and my family went to walk around the airport. My father is 72 and my mother is 70. We were tired from long travel and hungry.
I tried returning to the counter about 1330hrs and this time was a different staff, Fatimah. She said she was Moroccan.
She said we are in luck and said there is a car available at 1400hrs!
My only complaint is of the first staff who immediately told me NO and did not bother to help or check.
I think some of these should be corrected.
