The night manager was very kind to upgrade our vehicle to a nicer car. However, because of the late hour of pickup no one walked the car to check for exiting damage, which there was on the front driver side of the car. I called to report the damage to corporate and even had to take the car back to the pickup location because no one would answer the phone at the lot. Upon drop off the Hertz Rep acknowledged that the damage was preexisting and note it accordingly on her held held device.
This was our first time renting from Hertz. We rented two MPVs, one Kia and one Chrysler Pacifica. Overall, the experience was okay. Both cars had many scratches on the body, which we documented with photos. The store wasn't too crowded when we arrived, and the car pickup process went smoothly. The counter staff, a woman, suggested that we purchase the toll pass, but since it wasn't my first time in the U.S., I knew the toll roads could be avoided. We decided not to buy it and no additional fees were charged during the booking. When returning the car, I had already refueled, but they still charged me 10% for the fuel level being slightly below full. Honestly, I was quite annoyed. Chrysler Pacifica itself is fuel-intensive, and after visiting the U.S. three times, I've never encountered a rental company that would deduct fees for just being down one fuel bar. Overall, the impression was not great. If other rental companies weren't more expensive, I wouldn't choose Hertz.
Overall, the process was fairly smooth and mostly self-service, so there wasn't much interaction with staff. After completing the paperwork at pick-up, we went to the parking lot to find our car, and a staff member simply parked it next to us and left. For returning the car at JFK, we just dropped the key at the service desk. However, four hours after returning the car, in the middle of the night while on a flight, my credit card was unexpectedly charged $100. Customer service has been following up, but after four days, there's still no response from the rental company. I was about to book another rental for next week, but now I’m hesitant and unsure. I hope to receive a prompt resolution.
