The Zurich airport rental office is not far from the arrival hall, and you can walk there without needing a shuttle. There were not many people in line, and while the staff was not particularly enthusiastic, they were polite enough. I got the car quickly. However, the return location at Geneva airport lacks clear signage. Initially, I couldn't find the return spot and had to circle around and ask someone for directions. If you miss the only small sign, you might end up driving into France! Of course, this is not the fault of the rental office, and the return process was quick.
The car rental office said we couldn't use credit cards with magnetic strips, only those with chips were allowed, but they never informed us of this requirement. Therefore, they rejected my husband's card with a magnetic strip. When I used my chip card to secure the rental for my husband, they insisted on charging over 300 dollars to make me a co-renter. Otherwise, we couldn't pick up the car. This credit card policy is too unreasonable; I've never encountered such a situation in the U.S., and we wouldn't need to spend this extra 300 dollars.
The best part is, we were supposed to return the car at 11 AM since we picked it up at 11 AM, but because it was a Saturday and the tax refund office opened at 10 AM, we knew we couldn't return the car on time. We were still driving from Austria to Switzerland! Then we called the return service and informed them we'd be late, asking how much extra it would cost. He asked how late we'd be, and we said around 1 PM. He said 'No problem, it's OK, no extra charge.' Wow! When we arrived, we couldn’t find a gas station on the way to return with a full tank. The front desk staff was very friendly and told us there was a self-service station across the street and an attended one around the corner if we needed help. He even mentioned that gas is expensive here and it wouldn’t be cost-effective for us. Exceptional service! We filled up the tank, returned the car in a minute, everything went smoothly. Highly recommended!
