The standard for checking the fuel tank is not objective enough. Even though the fuel gauge needle had dropped less than 1/4, they still charged me for half a tank of gas.
I rented a Jeep Wrangler from Dollar on the Big Island of Hawaii. When I returned to Oahu to pick up the car and mentioned that I needed to pick up friends, the Dollar staff asked how many people were with me. I said five, and they suggested upgrading me to a seven-seat SUV at no extra charge, which was a pleasant surprise as I initially reserved a five-seat sedan.
The staff were professional, and even after promoting their services, they didn't insist when I declined. Simple and user-friendly! An excellent experience!
I got an upgrade to a larger vehicle for a very good price $15/day..
The checkin was horrendous though- almost 2 hours to get the car.
