The Hertz staff told us it was just a credit card pre-authorization, but in reality, they charged us the full insurance fee without our understanding of French. Moreover, no matter how we tried to explain later, they refused to refund it.
I will never rent from this company or its affiliated H company again! Poor car condition, poor service! Thrifty staff left immediately after handing over the keys without confirming with us. When we asked her questions, she told us to queue up again. We asked other staff from the same company, and they completely ignored us. Due to many scratches on the car, we needed confirmation, but had to queue again. The final solution was merely adding scratch marks on paper, no car replacement, claiming it was already printed (this is not our problem). They even forgot to give us the pass card, leaving us confused at the exit gate and blocking other cars. We had to go back and ask for the card, wasting a lot of time. Shortly after leaving, a tire pressure monitor issue popped up on the dashboard. Contacting the rental company, no one answered; Rentz’s response was to call the police first for support. Additionally, the return location on the confirmation sheet was just the Paris office, not the actual return spot. This place had no parking. We had to park far away and walk 1.3 kilometers to the office to ask, only to be told the correct drop-off location and procedure. During this time, no one answered calls to customer service, wasting nearly an hour driving around Paris looking for a spot. Thankfully, we reached the office before they closed, or else we would have had to return the car the next day.
French staff could be more efficient. Almost had an issue because the staff advised us to use diesel, but after spending over an hour at a German gas station and calling the Dutch rental company, we found out we needed gasoline instead. Confusing!
The whole car rental process was pretty good. The specific model I reserved wasn't available, so they offered a different car of the same class. However, I had to go to the garage to pick it up and wait. After a long wait, they finally found a car in the parking lot, which was the same model I reserved, a Golf, but it was a diesel TDI version. This car was really great, with quick acceleration and strong pull-back feeling. What surprised me the most was its incredible fuel efficiency; I only used one and a half tanks of fuel for 2051 kilometers, which is unbelievable!!! Additionally, returning the car was a bit troublesome mainly because the roads around Charles de Gaulle Airport are very complicated and almost made me dizzy. But I eventually found the rental return point, and the return process was simple and quick, so overall it was good.
On returning the car at 9 am, there was only one lady at the check in counter inside the office. She was also the one that had to go out to check the vehicle conditions, the fuel used etc and can process 1 customer every 15 minutes or so. There were 6 people on line and you can estimate how long it took her. I almost missed my flight because of this!
