You can walk to the counter of Enterprise - Auckland International Airport car hire.

Auckland Airport International Terminal Arrivals: 1. Once you clear customs and exit into the arrivals area. 2. Make your way-out to Door 8, cross the pedestrian crossing and follow the ‘Car Rentals’ sign to the Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Alamo, and National Car rental office in the AKL Airport Transport Hub. Domestic Terminal Arrivals: 1. After retrieving your luggage, exit through Door Number 4, located adjacent to the food court. 2. Cross the domestic terminal forecourt to reach the multi-level carpark building directly opposite. 3. Once inside the carpark, descend to the ground floor. 4. Look for Enterprise, Alamo, and National Car Rental office, which you'll find situated on the far left side of the building. Ferry Transportation: Not Allowed

Enterprise does not allow to bring the rental vehicle to ferry. You will drop off your car at one port and collect another after crossing to the other island. A minimum of 3 days consecutive rental required in each island (If the minimum length of rental requirement is not met, then the rental will be charged as two separate hires.).
