Your website said cars were insured for use in Switzerland but failed to mentained wntertyres are mandated. We needed to upgrade the car to get the tyres at a cost of €210. Very unhappy and the Europcar girl was hopeless at dealing with the issue denying any association with the problem as the booking was not made directly. She then failed to give us the map for the return of the car. In Geneva finding the French side is very tricky and it took us over an hour of curcling the airport to find the place. In the end we picked up the map from the Swiss side and managed to return the car. Overall in an industry of continual gotchas this one was well up there.
“Efficient and good value but more guidance needed on directions to find drop off place for car.”
About Alamo:7.3/10
It was a bit confusing having to walk through the airport to get to the French side - this could have been explained better when booking the car. Also, the map and sat nav reference for drop off was wrong and luckily my husband seemed to know where he was going - this should definitely be looked at, as if I was on my own, I wouldn't have had a clue!
“No winter tyres on your fleet at this location in middle of winter is irresponsible!”
About Alamo:8.7/10
In the middle of the winter I would expect your fleet of cars at Geneva airport to be equipped with winter tyres. The Swiss side fleet has but the French side fleet doesn’t and a surcharge for it is 23 euros a day. This is profiteering. How can you send people out in the snow on summer tyres, it is irresponsible and charging this much of a surcharge is despicable. I shall take this further.
The gentleman at the checkout desk tried to aggressively upsell me, which was uncomfortable.
However the man who handled the car pickup and drop off was excellent! Very helpful and excellent customer service.
1. it is really difficult to find the way to drop of the car. They give you a picture with the way you have to follow in order to deliver the car but on that road there is not any petrol station to fill the car and is like a labirinth.
2. On the paper which you received when you take the car sais that if you want to drive on the highway you have to pay . There is not clear of how much money you have to pay and the sign of the car for the swiss highways there is not sticked on any car of Europcar . That means that company does not stick the stickers in order to pay 40 euros just to drive on swiss highways. When i ask them about the sticker they told me is mine. The sticker is not mine it is has to be stuck on the car.
3. They told me that i will be charged with petrol because i coouldnt find a petrol station on the map they told me to follow and till now i have no idea about the cost.
“europcar need to set up the drop off (for Geneva airport French side) on the car sat nav as home”
About Europcar:6.7/10
europcar need to set up the drop off (for Geneva airport French side) on the car sat nav as home (or favourite destination)
plus winter tyres should be standard (as it is on the Geneva side)
“The staff were pleasant but gave us no paperwork”
About Alamo:7.7/10
The staff were pleasant but gave us no paperwork nor instructions to get back to the French drop off location. We went round in circles for ages. Eventually, we found the Alamo desk on the Swiss side but they did not really help. Again we went in circles. The car itself was good but the return experience was very stressful and spoilt our return journey
“Had I know the additional expense of winter tyres it would have been cheaper for me to get a coach t”
About Europcar:7.0/10
The car did not have winter tyres despite me making it very clear I was going to a ski resort. I had to pay extra for the winter tyres when collecting the car.
“Europcar staff were not friendly. They did not provide a map to find drop off point”
About Europcar:6.0/10
Car was OK, but not as big as expected. Staff were abrupt. Finding drop off point in French sector of GVA was VERY difficult and stressful. I would hesitate to go there again
The French pickup / return area at Geneva is very poorly signed and the directions given were really inadequate.
On return, no staff were at the drop-off point and vans were blocking the few free spaces. Staff at the desk declined to give any receipt for the return of the car.
“Summer tyres on car rentals from Geneva in January- LETHAL!”
About Alamo:5.7/10
To offer a car for hire in Geneva in January with summer tyres (and they be dismissed with a Gallic shrug when complained about on return, fortunately safe) is totally unacceptable.
