“Avoid Alamo/Guerin - Unsafe cars - one of the worst rental car experiences of my life.”

I want to start by saying that this was the worse car rental experience of my life. I rented a minivan. It took over 3 hours of waiting in line before I could get the car. And, it was all downhill from there. On the second day, after our day trip, we were headed to Castro Marim. However, right when we were ready to leave, the minivan started showing me a "service required" light. I had to drive all the way to the airport to swap out the car for another minivan. Our trip to Castro Marim was delayed by 2+ hours and we didn't get there until past midnight. But that's not all of it, the 2nd minivan we got was even worse. About an hour into our drive, it started showing me all sorts of warning lights on the dashboard, including, "Brake System Failure", "Stop", and more. The lights in the entire car were flashing every few mins. It was really scary and traumatizing for everyone in the car. We pulled over multiple times and restarted the car (as instructed), which resolved the issue each time. However, when we got to our rental house, the car died right at the gate blocking other cars from getting into the property. We had to drag all of our luggage through a long path in the middle of the night. The next morning I got in touch with customer service, who arranged for a tow truck to pick up the car and a taxi to pick me up and drive me to Faro airport to pick up yet another minivan. This 3rd car had a broken sunroof shade and made our drive very uncomfortable. I chose to pay a premium on a car rental to ensure we would avoid these types of issues. However, that was not the case.
I was in Portugal for 5 days with my family and lost about a day and a half because of all these issues with the cars. Again, this was the worse car rental experience of my life. I am considering posting reviews with my experience on the 3rd party sites.
Contacted Alamo/Guerin multiple times but they have not gotten back to me.
I explained to the staff that my flight was delayed by an hour and would appreciate it if they could speed up the process as my mother was seriously ill in hospital and myself and my sister were to go straight to the hospital, the Counter staff were rude and appeared to take longer than usual to go through the procedure and then gave me the wrong class of car, a Toyota aygo instead of a fiat 500L, when I queried this I was told it must be the right car. The vehicle fuel tank was only 5/8 full when it was meant to be full which meant I gave the car back with more fuel as it was hard to gauge 5/8. Worst experience with a car rental company I've ever had.
It took at least an hour to pick up the car! The procedures were very lengthy! They charged 60 euros for insurance for two days, which is outrageously expensive! Returning the car was also very slow! Make sure to allow plenty of time, or you'll miss your flight!
The car was great...modern with sat nav and clean inside and out. The pick up process was DISGRACEFUL. We arrived at the desk at 9.45am to utter chaos and crowds of people queueing. By their own admission they had to turn around 300 cars that morning with only 6 staff on the desks. It took a full hour before our turn (the lady was lovely) and then another 45mins to wait upstairs while the car was being washed despite being told it would just be 5 mins. We had booked our collection for 10am so I asked why the car wasn't ready when it was 11.45am. The guy said it was our fault for not being there at 10am so they had given our car to someone else. Well excuse me but the reason we weren't there was the queue downstairs!!! When I asked him about compensation for the long wait he was rude and aggressive saying he had no authority(despite being in charge) to authorise anything and I should go back downstairs to speak to the manager. Back down to that chaos-I think not as he was surrounded by other angry customers the last time I saw him. It really ruined the start of our holiday. After a long flight and early start, waiting for nearly 2 hours is a disgrace. The return process was easy and took just over 10 mins. Suely if the company know they have a huge turnover then it is not rocket science to plan more staff!! So many angry customers...im surprised anyone uses them....I certainly wont again.
I can’t understand how it’s possible that in 2019, the company is still renting cars without AC (particularly in the middle of summer), and with manual windows... I understand that I opted for an economy car but this was ridiculous specially given what it cost me. When I asked for a different car with proper conditions, I was told that it would be a 30euro per day upgrade!!! C’mon! I wasn’t asking for much, just didn’t want to melt in my car during my vacation.

Goldcar informed me insurance excess was fixed at €1600 and this could apply even for the smallest of damage. They almost insisted that I take extra insurance for €300+ addition.
Hugely disappointing, especially as the car we got had many many scratches and issues that I had to take 12 photos on pick up.

La voiture a ete fournie sans le plein d‘essence, je dirais aux 2/3. A l‘acceuil ils m‘ont indiqué qu‘il n‘était pas nécessaire de la restituer avec le plein (contrat de type Flex fuel SDR) et au retour j‘ai une facture de 35€ à payer pour le plein d‘essence. D‘autre part j‘ai un supplément de 24.39€ pour un véhicule diesel alors que je n‘ai rien demandé.
I was very happy with the quality of my rented vehicle and the service I received from Sadorent. They seemed very organized at the counter and got us on the road quickly.
I booked a BMW X2 but not available and offered a Volvo XC40 which was acceptable. Counter staff was very helpful and efficient but pick up counter was average. Overall the whole process was smooth.
Cas was very clean and new. The staffs were helpful and friendly. The price was super cheap compare with other company. We got Mini Cooper only 50€ for 4 days.
Cannot recommend. We waited more than an hour and half to collect the car. The lady who then attended to us was ruse. They also charged us additional insurance even though we had hours which ended up costing more than the actual rental. The ca itself was fine but never again.
