After finishing the paperwork, it only takes five minutes to walk to the parking lot to get the car. I booked an RAV4 but actually got a Nissan X-Trail, which was almost new with only 5800 kilometers on it. It came with a built-in GPS, which is very convenient given many places in the South Island lack cell phone signal. Renting with basic insurance from QEEQ, I upgraded to full insurance at the EZI counter for 28 NZD a day, with zero deductible. This proved useful, as many roads in New Zealand are gravel and quite a few stones fly around. The second day, a stone kicked up by an oncoming car cracked the windshield in two places. When returning the car, I informed the staff about the damage, they checked the rental record and told me I was free to go without any charges. I will rent from EZI again next time.
