My English isn't great, so at first, I was pitched various extra services for a long time, such as GPS and WIFI rental, which I understood but found much more expensive than Zuzuche. I initially thought I was just putting a deposit on my card, but it turns out I was charged over 200 pounds for some insurance. Additionally, returning the car with an empty tank cost over 60 pounds, which is a rip-off. I'd rather return it with a full tank since it’s hard to time it right to return it when the tank is empty, and refueling only costs around 50 pounds. It felt like an Indian guy was trying to upsell me, with a British boss standing behind him. My advice: don't take any of their additional services.
Also, before going, I called the store and was told that I needed an international driving permit or a notarized translation of my domestic license. Hong Kong licenses or translations of domestic licenses wouldn't work. However, in reality, the translation document was sufficient. Unlike Hertz, which clearly states that a translation document is acceptable.
Since the staff did not provide the postal code for the drop-off location in writing, it was quite troublesome to return the car at Heathrow Airport, almost causing a missed flight. Hope this can be improved.
The car provided was totally unacceptable. Unfortunately numerous issues I noticed shortly after leaving the rental location. The car was dirty inside and out, significant damage to the exterior, and was not full of fuel (despite being marked otherwise on paper) - essentially the car was clearly not prepared for hire. After booking a medium hatchback I was provided with a 1.0 ltr Fabia estate which had some mechanical issues. Due to lack of "availability" at my local branch I had to drive 60 miles to get it replaced. Definitely won't be renting with Avis/Budget again anytime soon.
“Disappointing service from customer desk upon arrival at Gatwick.”
About Budget:7.0/10
I was disappointed that the service desk tried to fob me off with a 2 door Fiat 500 even though I had booked and paid for a 4 door Ford Fiesta or similar. So frustrating that almost every time the rental company tries to persuade you to take a car that is a lower specification than the one you have booked in advance and paid for in advance!! Trying to charge £14 per day for a satnav and £10 per day for an additional driver is just ridiculous. If the prices were more reasonable I’m sure your customer would be tempted to boost your profits via these “add ins” but because you are greedy and overcharge for them I’m sure that most people like me don’t bother..
