Like: Efficient pickup and drop off at airport. Avoided congestion at major car rental area of airport. Outstanding car made driving in the beautiful countryside enjoyable. Built in gps that was made available to us at pickup was invaluable.
Dislike: Prior written detailed information about large insurance deductible deposit at the time of pickup. Lucky we had a card with a high limit. Better signage for location and vehicle return.

I did not get the car I booked - i asked for a small car and got an SUV which I did not want as too big. I also ordered it full to full and got like for like which I did not like. Also it only had one bar of fuel so I had to find a petrol station before I could go on my journey, and with the delay in the pick up and this it meant I ended up driving on roads I did not know in the dark. Not impressed.

Had to wait over an hour, complete waste of time. I would never recommend greenmotion. The cost more than doubled when accident insurance was applied. Cost was over £100 for 3 days. Although I hired for 3 days, I was only allowed 2 days mileage not 3 , so then had to pay another £10 for excess mileage . Overall I was an expensive disaster !!

Terrible customer experience with Green Motion. They rent the cars out cheap but put every conceivable obstacle in your way to make you "have to" get their inflated insurance. First I was told I hadn't had my full licence long enough, then they changed their mind?! Then they told me that in order to get the car I had to provide a letter from my boss on company letter head as I was using a corporate card. This is not explained anywhere at all that I can see, and not possible in the time frame. When I went to leave I complained to the boss, who then allowed me to use my card (so their rules are bogus), upgraded the car, gave us a free extra driver, and unlimited mileage, BUT we had to get £400 excess cover at a cost of £120 pounds for 5 days. We already had insurance but were stuck and had to take it. So £33 car hire costed £153. But PUSH THEM ON THEIR BOGUS PRICES

Total Failure.
Vehicle was collected in the pouring rain and we had to trust that there was some damage on the plastic lip under the bumper.
When the vehicle was returned there was apparently more damage to this plastic lip at the bottom of the bumper in the form of a 45mm scratch.
I cannot see how anyone could distinguish the difference between what was apparently there already, which was not visible, and what is claimed has happened since the vehicle was in my care.
I am certain that no damage occurred to the vehicle whilst it was in my care.
Out of interest I phoned Kia in Edinburgh to see if the £277 which Greencar are claiming for this addition damage to the already damaged front plastic bumper lip was reasonable. The price for this component is £22.59p
This is simply insurance fraud and I am currently taking legal advice for which i shall be claiming my costs unless the £200 of my excess returned to me immediately.

It took a long time to get all the admin sorted as I was not aware I should have my NI number and DVLA code and clearing done.
As I did not know my NI number I had to phone around and finally got this all sorted.
It was good that I had taken my passport along as well, because a second ID was needed.

The car was fine it was as described. The problem was there was over an hours wait at Green Motion in picking up the car. The staff were apologetic but we have never waited this long to pick up a rental car before. Talking to other customers it seems this not unusual. Sorry , Cant recommend them to anyone else for this reason. They need to get more staff.

Below is the summay of my recent car rental experience with Green Motion Edinburgh Airport. I was cheated by their staff from picking up till returing. I seek your investigation of their unethical behaviours.
1. I was forced to purchase zero excess when collecting my car. The reason is I cannot provide a credit card with pin. But after the zero excess purchase with them, then my credit without pin can be used for the 200 pounds deposit.
2. after purchase of zero excess, the staff at collection counter told me all the damages will be covered, no need to take photo of the car when collecting and returning the car. He even suggest me to cancel my 3rd party insurance with AXA.
3. When retuning the car, the manager told me the zero excess purchased with green motion is no longer valid and deducted over 1000 pounds from my credit card instantly despite that i refused to pay. His reasons are that i failed to report the scratch/dent on the door within 2hrs, which I did not even notice before returning the car. 2nd reason is the zero excess only covers 1st accident, which i was never aware of. I feel being cheated by the edinburgh airport staff at both the collection and return counters.
4. I had a flat tyre during my journey in the middle of nowhere and the car cannot move. i called the green motion emergency breakdown number 10 times and never connect through. the emergency number does not work! even during weekday day time! i was so desperate and it wasted my whole day to fix the car.
In total, this is the worst car rental experience in my life.

The wait for collection was appalling spent over an hour with nowhere to sit and be comfortable, they did not accept your insurance for the car so we felt we were pressurised and intimidated to pay an extra excessive amount to carry on with the rental. They did upgrade the car but that was because we were not happy with the situation. Also there were other people in the same situation and they also were not happy with Green Motion.

I have to admit that the car was in absolutely perfect condition. The service was very kind and very specific about every detail in the booking. There was easy transfer from the terminal. What you MUST know however is that they are very detailed about the car condition. You can see videos and notes everywhere explaining how the process looks like and what are the possible charges. So probably if you happen to do even a small scratch the charges can go high. They offer their complimentary full coverage package but you must know it costs over GBP 40 per day, so if you book a small car it's going to double or triple the cost for you. So, they are VERY transparent in what they do and how they inspect the car, however if you choose not to take the insurance you might be liable to pay up to GBP 2500 for any damage. Overall, however, they are honest and transparent with the terms and conditions. I returned the car with no damage and the deposit was released within a few days.

in 2023 they should accept American Express. People want to use AmEx for the car insurance benefit, for them to not accept it makes it seem like it is deliberate to make you more inclined to purchase their overprices options.

1. During my rental period, I experienced a flat tire in the middle of nowhere at 8:30 PM (still within business hours). I called the rental office, company headquarters, and other contact numbers, but none were reachable. I couldn't get any assistance from the rental company. Fortunately, the car manufacturer's roadside assistance service helped me out. Not being able to contact the rental company during business hours is extremely disappointing.
2. When I purchased additional insurance, the service representative miscalculated the amount I needed to pay. After I pointed it out, they pretended not to notice and simply corrected the amount for me to re-pay.
3. The deposit payment method is extremely strict, requiring a £1500 deposit but only accepting credit cards with chips. My credit card from home doesn't have a chip, so I had to purchase additional insurance to lower the deposit amount. Throughout this process, the rental company's staff were not friendly.

Arrived at 11 PM. It was cold and raining in Edinburgh; only two staff members were working, and they were slow and had an average attitude. I had read about others’ experiences beforehand, so I came prepared with a China Merchants Bank Platinum International Card, embossed, Visa-only, no UnionPay mark. But when picking up the car, they said the card couldn't be used for the deposit; I had to purchase full insurance on the spot to get the car. The insurance payment went through, and they explained that transactions and deposits go through different channels. They didn’t accept cash deposits, and I couldn’t cancel the order at that point, so I ended up paying £600+ for insurance. I saw other Europeans having the same issue when picking up their cars, so it felt like the company makes money off these insurance fees. I’ve never experienced such a scam in other countries. Warning other travelers not to fall for this.
