Complete mess! This company is a scam and the worst I've ever encountered! They find every fault to prevent you from getting the car smoothly, forcing you to pay more, buy extra insurance, and even use deceptive tactics. The staff attitude is terrible! I heard about such cases in the US, but it's the same in Germany too. I can't imagine what it's like in other locations! I hope everyone avoids this company despite their seemingly low prices because there are more traps waiting...
When picking up the car, they said they didn't have the automatic model I wanted. After a long wait, they finally arranged one, but the car was very dirty and hadn't been cleaned. The service staff were generally indifferent and unfriendly. An extra 16.8 euros was charged for cross-border usage.
I rented a PASSAT wagon, but upon arrival, the car was unavailable. They offered me two choices: a FORD MONDEO wagon or a BMW 1 Series. I chose the MONDEO and was pleasantly surprised to find it was a brand new car with only 10 kilometers on it. I was extremely satisfied! The space is definitely larger than the PASSAT and it’s brand new! A delightful surprise!
The company is not trustworthy, and the car's condition was average. I rented a mid-size estate car, specifying a model like OPEL VECTRA EState / FORD MONDEO ESTATE/OPEL insignia estate which should have had space for 2 large suitcases and 1 small suitcase. I also requested a diesel version. However, at pickup, Dollar handed me the keys and informed us that the car was a small one, with very limited space that couldn't fit our luggage (one 26-inch large suitcase and two 20-inch small suitcases). After much discussion, they were very arrogant and told us not to hold up the line and to step aside. We were very angry and spent over 20 minutes negotiating. Eventually, they said we could have any car in the model group, but then they claimed the rental price was too low for those cars, especially not for a diesel, and if we wanted a better car from that group, we had to pay an additional 10 Euros per day. My wife and I, having lived in the US and rented cars before, had never encountered such a situation. Worrying about the car's condition and unfamiliar roads, and after almost 40 minutes had passed, we decided to pay the extra amount. Then, they tried to sell us full insurance and additional services, warning of severe consequences if we didn’t buy them. We informed them we had insurance from Zuzuche, but they dismissed it and were visibly upset when we insisted on declining. They reluctantly handed us the keys without telling us where to pick up the car. The car we got was an OPEL Astra Estate, which had less space compared to a MONDEO ESTATE. It barely fit our luggage. During the handover, we insisted on inspecting the car and marking all scratches on the form, which proved useful later when they tried to charge us for damages during the return inspection. About 80 kilometers after picking up the car, an oil warning light came on. After checking, it was clear the car was low on oil. Contacting DOLLAR was a hassle due to language barriers. Initially, they told us to refuel, but later they understood and asked us to find a place to repair the car and keep the receipt. Due to language issues and being a Saturday, it took us 2 hours without finding help, so we continued driving cautiously. More warnings appeared, advising a service station visit, but again, communication failed, and we were told to ignore it. Even the hotel owner couldn't find anyone to help. Multiple calls resulted in no resolution. Luckily, the car didn't have major issues, though the fuel consumption seemed high. By the time we returned the car, the oil level was at 40%, and we had another lengthy argument with DOLLAR staff.
The car was new and in excellent condition! It was very comfortable to drive. The staff was professional and friendly. Communicating in English was not an issue.
1. The front of the car got scratched by some dry branches on the ground. It wasn't very serious and should just need some paint touch-up, but I was charged over 800 euros, which is too much.
The service attitude was good, and the car condition was also nice, but there was a discrepancy in the border crossing fee. The email mentioned a fee of 20 euros for entering the Eastern European country Czech Republic, but the counter charged 50 euros upon pickup. Other than that, everything was good and cost-effective. Overall, I was quite satisfied with this rental, and the upgraded vehicle at the counter was also very good. I will choose them again next time.
Because I picked up the car two hours earlier, I had to upgrade and pay an extra 200 euros, and the insurance cost another 200 euros. Plus, the person who received the car when I returned it had a bad attitude. It was not a very pleasant car rental experience.
The staff was very friendly and attentive. However, the car given to us, while having low mileage and being relatively new, had some issues during driving. The RPMs would spike unexpectedly even at speeds of 50 or 60 km/h, reaching 3 or 4, which made me hesitant to accelerate. Additionally, there was an extra charge for diesel cars, costing 5 euros per day, which wasn't very economical.
I rented a car at Frankfurt Airport in Germany from Dollar Rent-a-Car, sharing an office with two other rental companies. There were few staff members, and the queue was very long, taking three hours to rent the car. We traveled through four countries: the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, and had to pay an extra 50 euros for crossing borders (this was not a highway toll but an additional fee charged by the rental company). This fee was not mentioned in the rental agreement.
I arrived at Frankfurt Airport at 6 AM. Since I had a reservation for 10 AM, I asked if I could pick up the car earlier. They said I had to wait. When I went at 9:30 AM, they told me there were no cars available. Finally, at 12 PM, they gave me a car that did not match my reservation. They delayed my pickup by 2 hours and told me there was only one car left, take it or leave it. It was an Opel Corsa, but I had reserved an Opel Vectra Estate or a similar model. The Opel Corsa was very small. I believe Zuzuche should take responsibility and negotiate with the supplier. I was charged for the Opel Vectra Estate or a similar model, as per my original reservation. Since I was in a hurry to meet a client and had already wasted two hours, I didn't raise any objections at the time and took the car. I plan to discuss this with Zuzuche when I return.
Issue 1: They delayed my pickup by 2 hours.
Issue 2: They did not provide the reserved car model.
Issue 3: They did not refund the difference for the downgraded car model.
I hope Zuzuche will communicate with Doll and provide me with a response. Please refund the difference for the downgraded car model.
