Difficult to find the Thrifty office inside the building as we had little direction.

The queue for picking up the car was long. When it was finally my turn, they aggressively tried to sell insurance. After refusing, they deliberately delayed the process and refused to give me a four-wheel-drive vehicle, claiming that their branch does not have Jeep Compass or similar models with four-wheel-drive. This ruined my plans to go to the Mauna Kea summit to watch the sunset, as I was only able to reach the visitor center because my vehicle didn't pass the inspection for summit access.

The staff was very enthusiastic and patient, always thinking about the customers. Since I needed to install a child seat in the car, they always recommended the model with the largest interior among similar ones. Very considerate.

The entire rental process was quite smooth, and the return was very fast. Overall, Thrifty is considered a lower-end rental company in the U.S. The vehicles are not very new. During the rental, the staff will try to recommend various insurances and vehicle upgrades.

I requested a small car but received full size; not good for driving in Hawaii, Big Island; who needs black car in such sunny place as Haiwai, it heats up so fast. it is confusing to locate drop off place, the signs are misleading very much

The car was as promised. It was a 2019 Chev Impala, fully loaded, very comfortable. It had some minor scratches near the front headlight, other than that, nothing wrong. Shuttle bus was quick to pick us up. There was some sticky substance on the back seat that we had to clean up due to not noticing until after we left the rental location.

I had to return the first car as it had brake and cruise controls issues. The first person assistant was somewhat rude in general in giving me the auto I had ordered and I had to state that I wanted a full size four door and not what he was offering me. I make it very clear that that I would like to have what I paid for. He made a nasty comment about being booked thru a 3 party and I continued to ask for what I had paid for. I did get the 4 door full sizes and left only to return it the next day because it had problems. The second agent was very happy to accommodate me and was very apologetic about the problem with the first vehicle. He was great and wonderful. Thanks

The staff at the counter used hard sell methods to try and force / convince me to buy additional liability insurance. The staff lied directly to my face claiming I would have ZERO liability insurance if I don't get Liability Insurance Supplemental (LSI). As the name already implies LSI is additional (supplemental) insurance. This is optional because the rental company is already required by state law to ensure at least minimum required liability insurance. This would have added additional 40% to my total rental cost !! I had to vigorously refuse several times until the counter staff reluctantly -- and still insisting I would be at extreme risk without any liability insurance -- gave in and finally let me leave. Apart from this rude and quite threatening behavior, the vehicle was also in rather poor condition: - very high mileage (over 33,000 miles) and dirty interior - vehicle tire maintenance warning active from start of rental, so clearly the required checks and repairs were not performed during vehicle return processing - I literally had to demand that staff at vehicle handover join me in inspecting the vehicle to record any existing damage. I will NEVER AGAIN rent from this company.
