“Starting from Auckland, we crossed the Cook Strait to the South Island, traveled along the west coas”
About ACE Rental Cars:10.0/10
The car had relatively high mileage, the one I rented had already reached 100,000 kilometers, but it was well-maintained with new tires. The key is it had great value for the price, especially the convenience of returning it at a different location. Both pickup and return were quite easy!
“Mismatched Vehicle Model, Given a Car With Engine Problems, Long Delay in Complaint Resolution, Poor”
About ACE Rental Cars:2.0/10
The vehicle model did not match the reservation, and they forced us to take a car with engine problems. After returning home, the complaint took a long time to resolve. Very dissatisfied.
“It was ok but i felt like i was trickef into paying 2 insurance that i didnt need.”
About ACE Rental Cars:7.7/10
The car was old. They charged me anonther insurance or else i would put a deposit of $2000. Easy rent cars already charged me with insurance. So i ended up paying 2 insurance. Which is so unfair. Because ace did not accept the insurance of easy rent cars.
The rental location is across the street from the airport and not clearly marked for pedestrians. The car seat we asked for was missing the shoulder straps so we had to ask for another. The vehicle was old and computer console was in Japanese. Van met its needs though and ran well. Was clean and easy return and courteous staff.
Like: The staff who handled our pick up and drop off is very friendly and efficient! We got a bigger van than requested. Extremely grateful for that as we had extra 2 bags which may not fit in a smaller van. When we reached the branch, the vehicle was ready for us. Very efficient service! Dislike: I am satisfied with the sterling service so no other comment
The GPS within the car was pricey, so unfortunately we had to buy a sim card which was wasting our time, as we hadn't been informed of the GPS charges. The staff were friendly about it, but they rushed the service a little it seems.
Car was damaged and in poor condition inside and out. When we mentioned this the counter staff didn't seem to care. We weren't shown around the car or given instruction. It had alot of miles on the clock and we were concerned it would get us to our destination. The age and condition of the car it should not be on the road for hire. For the amount of money we paid for hire we did not expect to get something as old and damaged. We are going to put in a complaint to both ACE and AXA insurance. We are still awaiting the return of the $750 holding fee from ACE.
The staff at pickup weren't very helpful and kept us waiting a long time for a car that looked like it had been through the wars. The passenger seat was extremely uncomfortable and the car was not new. It also smelt like the previous occupant smoked. The drop off location was not easy to find. Would not use this company again.
1. The car was not parked at the airport as agreed in the booking, and the keys were not left at the information desk. Instead, an ACE employee asked us to pay NZD 60 for her to take us to the rental office. We had to wait over an hour in the evening for this.
2. The booking had a remaining balance of NZD 86 to be paid. The confirmation stated that NZD 38 was unnecessary to pay, meant to cover the parking fee when picking the car up at the airport (capped at NZD 38). It seemed clear from the confirmation that NZD 38 + NZD 38 + NZD 10 = NZD 86 would solve the out-of-hours car pick-up/drop-off issue. However, this was not the case! We were required to return the car to the rental office and handle our own transportation outside business hours, dropping the keys in a mailbox. The so-called premium location fee of NZD 10 and the additional NZD 38 really made no sense!
3. The car did not have the required road tax sticker. ACE provided an address and asked us to collect it from the post office ourselves, warning that we would face a fine if caught by the police without it. Our schedule was tight, and we could only go to the post office on the second or third day. While ACE said no payment was needed for the sticker, the post office required payment. We were unsure if they were referring to the same thing and decided to risk it without the sticker. Fortunately, we didn't encounter any police.
Overall, a very bad experience!!
