Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers will need to provide a physical full driving license in their name with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1-2 year(s).

For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Original driving licence + International Driving Permit (IDP)

Please note that an International Driving Permit(IDP) is only a translation.You must present your original driving licence with the original IDP at the counter.

Original Korea Driving Lisense (English version)

The back of the driver's license must have English translation.

Towards any New Zealand islands, taking rental cars crossing islands is allowed with certain conditions.

Europcar vehicles are not permitted to travel on the ferry. For this reason we operate the inter-island travel service, whereby, the car is left at one ferry terminal and another car is waiting for you at the ferry terminal on the other island. Europcar only allows customers to exchange their vehicle once for cross-island travel，and does not support multiple vehicle exchanges between islands. Please contact Europcar no later than 5 days prior to your ferry crossing.Email: info@europcar.co.nz

Ferry Transportation: Not Allowed

Europcar does not allow to bring the rental vehicle to ferry. You will drop off your car at one port and collect another after crossing to the other island. A minimum of 3 days consecutive rental required in each island (If the minimum length of rental requirement is not met, then the rental will be charged as two separate hires.).

Car was brand new - plug-in hybrid. Problem was no AC-DC adaptor to allow fast roadside charging, so most driving was with engine, which was a shame. Long paperwork process at pick-up and long wait for service. Hard to find drop off counter at Wellington airport (it's inside, unlike the others).

The queue at Europcar was very long. In fact, it was the only hire car company with a queue. There was only one person working the counter so, it took almost an hour and we were third in the queue. The staff were friendly but, there was no urgency at all. To be fair to the staff, upon return, I left my mobile in the car. When I went back to retrieve it, they had it at the front desk. This was a big positive. In addition, I believe this is the first time I received the exact car that I was told I would get. This is also positive.
