Make sure to thoroughly check the car when picking it up. The tires on our car were nearly worn out. We had a blowout during the trip, but fortunately, we discovered it the next day before leaving the hotel. The car didn't even have a jack; we had to borrow one to change the spare tire.
It’s a good car rental company! Overall, it’s fine! They patiently explain various rules to you. They won't give you the car until you listen to everything! When I returned the car, I left my phone inside. When I went back, they returned it to me! Icelandic people have a high level of integrity! But make sure the rental car has a towing rope, you’ll need it in Iceland! If it doesn’t, ask for one just in case.
When booking through Zuzuche, I carefully checked the terms, which said a pre-authorization of 2500 euros would be held. However, at the store, they said it would be 3000 euros unless I purchased their insurance. Although I explained that I had already bought insurance through Zuzuche, they insisted on the 3000 euros deposit. Additionally, the price for the child booster seat was higher than quoted on Zuzuche. There was no one to pick us up from the airport and we waited a long time until I called them. The only positive aspect was that the car was relatively new.
We booked a Subaru Forester but were given a Hyundai Santa Fe. There's a noticeable difference between the two, but the staff insisted that the performance is similar and that this was the only available car.
There was hardly any queue, but after inspecting the car, I found it was different from my reservation. I had booked an automatic gasoline car, but they gave me a manual diesel. I had to wait 20 minutes to switch to another automatic gasoline car. The replacement was an older Japanese model. Returning the car was slow due to limited staff, and I was worried about missing my flight, so I wasn't very satisfied. Other than that, the car condition was good, though the power was a bit weak. The fuel consumption was very satisfactory at 5.8 liters per 100 km.
Booked a Volkswagen Golf, received a Fiat instead. Gas stations in Iceland are mostly self-service and have a set limit. In a rush, the tank was slightly short, and they demanded it be topped up plus a fine of 5000 Krona. The staff were deliberately difficult and rude, almost causing us to miss our early morning flight.
When picking up the car, they tried to push us into buying insurance, but I didn’t buy it. When returning the car, they were difficult and the service attitude was not very friendly.
Domestic insurance was not directly accepted, so a high deposit was required when picking up the car. They offered sandstorm insurance, but considering the weather, I did not purchase it.
They recommended renting a GPS when picking up the car. However, I had already ordered a free GPS when booking through ZuzuChe, so I didn't rent one. The car actually had a built-in GPS. Perhaps the staff was not familiar with the vehicle, otherwise, they might have tried to upsell. The Chinese GPS was more convenient.
When renting the car, they only looked at the English translated document, not the driving license. Downside: They provided a car that had been driven for over a hundred thousand kilometers, which had high fuel consumption and scratches all around. I requested a replacement, but they said there was no car available. Upside: You don't have to worry about further scratches, it has a large space, is heavy and stable. The car inspection upon return was very thorough.
No Chinese service, and they tried to upsell insurance. If you don't buy their full insurance, they hold 11,111 euros on your credit card. We were in a hurry and didn't argue with them, partly because of the language barrier. It seemed impossible to hold such a large amount, so we didn't pursue it further. The GPS provided by the rental service was mediocre; our phone worked better. They gave us a Jeep with over 60,000 km, and its condition was really poor.
