Terrible experience! I booked a Ford Explorer, which is a 4WD off-road vehicle, but I ended up with a 2WD SUV. I don't remember the exact model, but it was some Nissan SUV with poor performance. The car couldn't even climb a hill properly despite flooring the gas pedal, failing to outperform a small old sedan. Since a 2WD vehicle isn't allowed to go up to the Mauna Kea summit, we had to cancel our trip. The main reason we booked the expensive 4WD Ford Explorer was to go up the mountain. If I had known I'd end up with a 2WD SUV, I would have just booked the cheapest Ford Fiesta. We wasted thousands of dollars for nothing. The store staff had an extremely poor attitude. First, they offered us an upgrade to a 4WD for an extra $70 per day! I had already paid for a 4WD, but they gave me a 2WD instead, which is ridiculous! When we showed no interest in upgrading, they aggressively pushed third-party insurance, claiming it's legally required when we said we didn't want it. When we ignored this, their attitude turned extremely bad. We never had such a bad rental experience in Oahu or Maui. It greatly affected our travel mood! This happened at the Budget store near Kona Airport on the Big Island.
Budget added on additional charges that were not explained and far exceeded those suggested by QEEQ. I had no idea they were coming as the process was not explained to me it was simply deducted at the end and did not resemble any charge suggested by QEEQ. Budget seems to have no way for me to rectify this short of phoning and sitting on the phone for hours, they have no email contact details. I am thoroughly dissuaded from renting from them again.

About Budget:9.3/10
There was an issue at pick up. Budget wouldn't honor the size/class car that I reserved, which was a "Full Size" Chevrolet Impala or similar car. The desk clerk said that Budget doesn't honor third party reservations. He said we'd be getting a VW Jetta, not the full size car I reserved. It was late, we were tired due to a delayed flight, I didn't want to argue with the desk person and we needed the full size car, so I paid the additional $7/day to get the full size car. When we returned the car to Budget 10 days later, the same desk clerk was there. He told me he had made a mistake and tried to fix the cost but couldn't completely get it right. He gave us a $25 "Budget Voucher" but it's only good for 2 months, which is useless seeing we don't have a need for a rental within that period. I guess he did the best he could.
Easy to rent, although there is a price difference between the app and the website for the same car
