Overall, it was pretty good. However, I was later unexpectedly charged multiple times without clear explanations. It's probably for some traffic violations, but there should at least be some sort of explanatory email. The bank couldn't provide any details.
When I picked up the car, there weren't any available, so I waited about 40 minutes. I originally reserved a Volvo V40 hatchback but ended up with a huge Renault Koleos station wagon. In my view, the reserved models don't mean anything; you just get whatever car they have. Maybe it was a free upgrade in terms of cost, but this kind of upgrade made me really nervous while driving. I've always driven small cars at home, and driving such a big car abroad was truly exhausting!
We chose Hertz because it was a family trip and we had kids with us, so we always rent an 8-seater from them. This time, the car was in excellent condition, and the built-in navigation system was very useful. It was a very satisfying trip.
When picking up the car, there was no staff to accompany me. I had to find the car myself, and no one explained how to use it. The staff told me that since I had full insurance, there was no need to inspect the car when picking it up. However, during the return, the staff conducted a thorough inspection and found a tiny spot under the front of the car, claiming it was caused by me. I really can't agree with that.
The Hertz rental counter at Frankfurt Airport is very prominent, and the staff are enthusiastic. They held the Bus for us even though our flight was delayed. The procedures are simple.
