Satisfied with the car pickup at Frankfurt Airport. Not satisfied with the car drop-off at Munich train station! The address of the drop-off location did not match with the actual drop-off point!
The Frankfurt Airport location is easy to find, right inside the airport! The service was attentive. They even brought the child seat directly to the garage. The return process was simple. Very satisfied!
I originally booked a Benz C-class, but there were none available when I arrived. The store recommended a Ford Rega. Looking back, thankfully they gave us an SUV; otherwise, there wouldn’t have been enough space for the luggage of five people.
When we requested a driver change, they said it was not possible and instead suggested adding a driver. They didn't inform us that adding a driver would incur a fee, nor did they have us sign any documents. Halfway through, we received a bank deduction SMS. Calling the store yielded no response, and even when we got to the store in Fussen, the staff couldn't reach the Frankfurt store via internal phone or email. Rent-A-Car tried to help us contact them throughout but to no avail. Finally, when we returned the car, we argued our case and they didn't charge us the fee. However, this made us anxious throughout the trip, affecting our travel experience.
When we returned the car, we noticed the fuel tank wasn't full. The staff told us there was a gas station very close to the exit, and it was also very convenient to return the car under Terminal 2.
Both picking up and returning the car were extremely convenient and fast. I originally booked a Mercedes C-Class, but since it was unavailable, they upgraded me to a Volvo XC60 for free, which was fantastic for highway driving.
Hertz's overall service was terrible. We had to wait in line for more than half an hour at Frankfurt Airport to pick up the car, only to find out that their store's computer system and POS machine were both down. They said they needed to do a pre-authorization over the phone. After showing them three cards, they finally said it was successful. However, we received bank messages showing pre-authorization on all three cards. They provided incorrect parking information, making us search for the car for quite some time, and eventually, we got help from staff from another rental company to find the car on an upper level. When returning the car at the Frankfurt city center location, I requested a receipt and was told to come back the next day. When I went the next day, they said they would check immediately and to come back in 20 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes and returning, the counter staff had already left. A neighboring rental company employee said he received an emergency call and had to leave. We had to go back a third day and were presented with a bill over 600 euros higher than our booking. When we discussed the incorrect charges with the staff, they told us that they billed according to the computer records and advised us to call customer service. We had to fly back to our home country that day, so we could only handle the issue after returning. Overall, this was a terrible car rental experience.
After leaving the garage, I found the tire pressure warning light on. I went back to ask the staff, and they replied: It's like that, no problem. For the following 8 days, the tire pressure warning light was always on. Indeed, there was no issue, but it made me overly anxious about manually checking the tire pressure. The car itself was pretty good!
I scheduled the pickup time for 8 AM. I arrived a bit early and had to wait for a while. When it was my turn, I found out that the Mercedes E-Class I booked was not available, so I had to wait another half hour. In the end, they gave me a CLS350D with only 17 kilometers on it. Awesome!
We were attended by a young man with an Asian face. Although there was a bit of a language barrier, his enthusiasm and responsibility left us very satisfied.
Returning the car was very smooth.
