Hertz has been the worst car rental company I've dealt with in the past ten years abroad. They gave me a hybrid vehicle instead of the model I selected, and the fuel tank capacity was only 330km, with excessive fuel consumption. For example, the navigation showed a distance of 200km between two locations, but the actual fuel consumption for that same distance was 260km. When traveling between cities in Italy, I had to refuel midway for round trips. Despite repeated negotiations through the Pin platform and directly with the Venice Mestre store, as well as nearby locations like Milano Malpensa and Cremona, there was no resolution, and their attitude was blatantly arrogant. Even though their website showed availability of other car models, they refused to process my request, even when I offered to pay for an upgrade. Essentially, they hand you the car without any after-sale service. Moreover, the car I received was extremely dirty — the windshield, interior, and trunk were filthy, and the steering wheel was sticky. Even several alcohol wipes couldn't clean it off.
The location is near Venice train station, about a 10 to 15 minutes walk. The store is easy to find, located right by the main road leading off the island. The car will be placed in the parking area in front of the store in advance, making the pickup process very quick. The return location is on the fourth or fifth floor of a parking garage in Milan. Navigation directions are clear, but there's a bit of a walk to the metro or train station after returning the car.
Very satisfied, except the price for automatic cars is a bit high. It would be better if I could be reminded of the return time and the overtime fees when picking up the car.
Like: I enjoyed my visit to Italy, & was happy with the vehicle, I was finally provided with:-)! Dislike: Couldn't have the car I originally reserved (Audi Q5) as it required having 2 CCs (both in the name of driver), or a Platinum level card (at a stretch) would have been acceptable. Hertz advise this is part of the T&C's on their website, for "Premium" cars, which this was. This needs to be made clear on your website! Instead they provided us with Mercedes GLC220, which I believe is almost the same in value. Go figure!!
On the last day of rental the metal facia attached to the fuel hatch, "fell off" while in transit, back to the airport. It was my opinion (being a Mechanical Eng), it was, at best a vehicle defect, or at worse, a botched replacement. See photos & form your own opinion:-)
Nonetheless I was charge 140e for its repair. Currently appealing this with Hertz
