Followed the shared tips, everything went smoothly without any issues. The only downside was the long wait at the rental counter. There was a self-service machine, but it wasn't working, so I had to wait patiently in line.
I had reserved a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but upon arrival at the store, I was told it was unavailable. I was offered a Hyundai Santa Fe instead. Wanting an American car, I paid extra to upgrade to a Ford Mustang and specifically requested a V8 engine, which was confirmed. However, I received a convertible model with a V4 engine. Had I known it was like the domestic version, I wouldn't have paid to upgrade. I felt misled by the staff.
The service staff we encountered were quite average in attitude. They tried to sell insurance and a full tank of gas, but after we declined, they didn't push further. We were free to choose any car; the RAV4 has a larger trunk compared to the Jeep, fitting three large suitcases and one small suitcase.
When we picked up the car, the staff told us that the car we reserved wasn't available, and we needed to upgrade to another car. However, he didn't inform us that the upgrade was free. This isn't the main issue. The main issue is that he told us it would cost $261. My friend and I agreed to it at the time, then he asked for our credit card. He didn't mention any other charges, and when he swiped the card, he didn't confirm with us beforehand. He handed us the receipt without letting us verify the charges and asked us to sign. Due to my limited English, I didn't fully understand the receipt and assumed there wouldn't be any additional problems since we booked through the website. Later, when I checked my bank statement, I found out they had charged more than $700 without informing us. When I complained, it was ineffective. This incident ruined the rest of my trip. Originally, renting the car was supposed to cost me around 5,000 RMB, but due to the website's issues, it caused me significant financial loss, and the website didn't take responsibility.
The car rental company wasn't very helpful. When the tire had a leak on the highway, we were stuck for a long time because there was no Chinese-speaking customer service. They didn't offer any constructive suggestions. Finally, I suggested swapping the car at the nearest location, and only then did they agree. Communication was really difficult, but the replacement car was fine.
