Renting a car from Dollar was very convenient, and the car itself was great. We picked up the car at the Los Angeles airport location and returned it at the San Francisco airport location, both of which provided a very comfortable experience.
There were no unexpected insurance sales pitches as mentioned on the website (everything was handled on QEEQ, so there were no additional sales pitches on-site, which was the best and most expected outcome). After completing the paperwork (you might have to wait in line if there are many people), you go to pick a car yourself, with around ten models to choose from. Once you pick a car you're happy with, someone at the exit will scan and register it, and you're good to go. Thanks, it was an excellent experience.
The car condition was acceptable, but there weren't many models to choose from. No need to provide a driver's license notarization document, just the pickup slip and the driver's license. We waited for the shuttle bus at the airport for more than 20 minutes, while buses from other rental companies passed by multiple times. This was the most unsatisfactory part. The return process was simple, but having to drag luggage to take a train to the terminal felt very inconvenient.
The service was good. I bought an additional roadside assistance plan. Returning the car was very convenient, taking only a few minutes. On the second day after picking up the car, I noticed that there was no front license plate and there were scratches on the body. I called and the issue was resolved satisfactorily.
Rented a car during a holiday, so there was a long queue. Waited for more than 1.5 hours, but the return process was smooth. Overall pretty good. Will rent again next time.
I booked a Ford Focus since I'm more familiar with its operation, but when I arrived only Chevrolets, Kias, and Mitsubishis were available. I went with the Mitsubishi in the end because it had a big enough trunk. The Mitsubishi was okay, with decent power.
Good service, the customer service staff were patient. The car models were relatively new. Although the counter staff did try to sell insurance, following the QEEQ prompt to decline was fine. The car return procedure was simple.
Car pickup was very convenient. The staff was very enthusiastic in explaining everything to us. There are many cars to choose from, and the cars are quite new. Overall, it was a good experience.
Due to a lack of understanding of the vehicle model, the seven-seater model booked on the reservation page could only accommodate 5 people if it carried four large suitcases. Upon arrival, we had to upgrade the vehicle at an extra cost, initially quoted as $90 per day but negotiated down to $45 per day. This was not a good experience for the user, and there was also aggressive promotion of additional insurance. However, the car we eventually used was very good, and the return process was quite convenient.
1. After landing, Dollar's airport shuttle was significantly less frequent than Hertz or Avis, leading to long wait times. 2. When I arrived at Dollar to pick up the car, the wait in line took two and a half hours. Dollar treats walk-in customers and reservation customers the same, making everyone wait in the same queue, which is very unfair. 3. The salesperson deliberately concealed charges. For example, they told us we could return the car with an empty gas tank, claiming it was a special offer, but they had already charged us for a full tank. After insisting, they finally refunded us, which was frustrating. Additionally, they tried to trick me into buying optional services like road safety, claiming it was a mandatory requirement in the US. If it hadn’t been for the specific warnings on Zu's rental order, we would have been scammed into purchasing these options. Thanks to Zu for the warnings. 4. When I realized we were charged for gas and road safety, I canceled them and asked the front desk about the pre-authorized credit card freeze. The staff was very arrogant and unwilling to explain. 5. When returning the car with a full tank of gas, the staff suddenly asked for a fuel receipt from the previous day, which we weren't told about at pickup. They deducted over 10 dollars without informing us; if I hadn’t checked the receipt carefully, I wouldn’t have known. When I questioned her, she refused to explain and directed me to the counter with a terrible attitude. Ultimately, Dollar took the money without any clear explanation. 6. We booked a Grand Cherokee, but upon arrival, we were told there were none available and had to choose from just three similarly categorized cars. Compared to the large parking lots of Hertz and Avis, Dollar's selection was very limited, and it was nearly impossible to get the reserved model. Conclusion: I will never choose Dollar's services again.
We had to wait quite a bit for the shuttle bus at LAX. Several AVIS and HERTZ shuttles came before one Dollar shuttle arrived. At the rental location, there were many people at Dollar, possibly because it was around noon, a peak time. We waited in line for nearly an hour. They did offer additional insurance, which is optional depending on your choice. Initially, we chose a Jeep Cherokee, but it struggled with uphill roads. Later, at the Dollar rental spot at San Francisco Airport, we switched to a GMC. Its performance was much better, although it consumed more fuel. The car exchange process was very convenient: just refuel, a quick inspection, and then you get a few cars to choose from, which was nice.
No notarization needed, overall good, no hard sell, but had to wait a long time to pick up the car. The Dodge MPV's trunk space is a bit tight for two families traveling.
The service was good, and there was no hard sell for additional insurance. We opted for the road assistance insurance ourselves. Everything was fine, and returning the car was easy.
Very good and convenient. As soon as we got off the plane, there was a shuttle with Dollar printed on it. The driver didn't even ask and just helped us load our luggage. When we arrived at the rental location, the service staff almost charged us for additional insurance, but thanks to the printout from Zuzuche, we avoided that extra charge. However, they still charged me for a tank of gas (as I originally booked full-to-full). This turned out to be convenient since I could return the car with an empty tank, avoiding any hassle. Overall, the price difference wasn't significant. In summary, it was very cheap, very convenient, and very valuable.
The shuttle bus between the airport and the rental car company runs frequently and efficiently. The car is new and in good condition. Picking up and returning the car at the lot is very quick and convenient. However, the downside is that although there were not many people at the counter and the line was not long, the process was too slow and inefficient. Overall, it was a very good car rental experience.
