The service was practical but the vehicle introduction lacked detail. They didn't inform me that the jump-start cable was under the seat, which made it hard to find when the battery died.
Even though we contacted customer service on WeChat before our flight from Auckland, we still had to wait quite a while for pick-up upon arrival in Christchurch. We waited over half an hour before we had to call again for the staff to come. On the plus side, we got to use a rice cooker, condiments, and rice left by previous customers for free, which saved us some money. We also left quite a few items behind when we left. We paid a 2500 NZD deposit, which is supposed to be refunded about a month after returning the car. Overall, the car rental experience was decent, but the car was old (over 100,000 kilometers) and noisy. I'll update the review after the deposit is refunded.
The car rental process lacked standard procedures, and the quality needs improvement. The fact that the car was old was not indicated, leading to unmet expectations.
We got a free upgrade from a Corolla to a Camry, but for the two of us, the car felt a bit large. A smaller car would have been more maneuverable. A Camry might be better suited for more passengers. The car had almost 100,000 kilometers on it and was making some unusual noises.
The staff at the store were very enthusiastic. If the condition of the car matched their enthusiasm, it would have been perfect. We picked up the car at the store and found that it couldn't start when we inspected it. Unfortunately, there were no suitable vehicles available at the time, so they gave us one with an expired inspection temporarily and asked us to swap it at the airport the next day. The car we received the next day was 10 years old but clean inside. We hit the road with it. On the 7th day, the car failed to start in a mall parking lot. We had to charge the battery with the help of our companion and guidance from the rental company via WeChat, which was quite a hassle. During our 8-day trip, the car lost control on a gravel road, slid into the grass, and couldn't start again, entering an emergency mode. In our dispute with the rental company, we claimed that the car was in poor condition, but they argued we had no evidence. They suggested that we should have raised the issue with the car condition sooner.
The cars provided by this company seem to be refurbished second-hand vehicles. They are old but show zero mileage, have an odd smell, and are a bit dirty inside and out, making the driving experience unsettling. While they do offer shuttle services from the airport to the rental office, it's still much more cumbersome than picking up the car directly from an airport counter, causing considerable delays.
Disappointed! When issues arise, they don't make an effort to help resolve them, but instead, they blame the customer, taking advantage of us. Their attitude in handling problems is extremely poor! If any problems arise, be cautious.
They picked us up at the airport, eliminating the hassle of finding the store ourselves. The store is very close to the airport, and the staff processed everything quickly and efficiently.
Overall, fairly satisfied. It's a Chinese car rental company, so communication was easy. Upon arrival, I called, and they picked me up quickly. The car had already driven over 70,000 km, but it was well-maintained and in good condition. During the trip, a small stone from the opposite lane hit the windshield and caused a chip. I asked for advice on WeChat, and they responded quickly. The store is close to the airport, just a few minutes away, but it was hard to find. We spent quite some time locating it when returning the car. The only dissatisfaction was with the way they handled car damage. We rented cars in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, both with full insurance. Unfortunately, both cars were damaged. While the other company deducted repair costs based on actual expenses and provided a full set of claims documents by email for a straightforward process, this company deducted the entire pre-authorization amount at return. They later transferred some money back to me without explanation, which I found confusing. Only after multiple inquiries did I learn it was the unused repair funds. The insurance company refunded based on the actual repair costs, but this process led to a discrepancy of over a hundred dollars, probably due to exchange rates and bank fees. Fortunately, the rental company promised to claim the difference from the insurance company for me, but I haven't received the secondary refund yet. I find their complex operation method hard to understand.
When returning the car, there was only one person on duty at the company, so customers had to return the car themselves. The navigation address was inaccurate, and it took a long time to find the correct location. Although they upgraded us to a Camry, there were only two of us, and we didn't need it. Moreover, the Camry was a low-end model without a reversing radar, had a lot of noise, and consumed more fuel than the car we originally booked. The additional insurance cost $36 per day, almost equal to the car rental fee, making using instant rental a more convenient option.
The car rental company is Chinese-owned, communication was smooth. However, the Toyota Corolla we rented was very old with almost 150,000 kilometers on it. Without any collision incident, the chassis guard screws fell off, likely due to the car's poor condition. Although it was a minor issue, it delayed our journey and made us anxious. Objectively, the rental price was quite cheap, but we didn't know beforehand that the car had nearly 150,000 km on it. Otherwise, we would have preferred to spend more for a newer car. Also, when picking me up to the store, I specifically asked the driver about the car's mileage, and he casually said around 70,000 to 80,000 km. Not sure why he needed to play this trick since I could see it once I started the engine.
The store actually has many new cars available, including Corolla, Camry, and Alphard. However, the owner and the staff are quite clever, hehe. Overall, the service was good, but make sure to ask about the car's condition before renting.
The staff was very friendly and helpful in answering our questions and resolving issues. The entire process of picking up and returning the car was very smooth.
First time using a Chinese car rental company in New Zealand, felt very close to home. All the staff were very friendly, and both picking up and returning the car went smoothly. It was a very pleasant experience.
