Arrived at the rental company at 10 PM, extremely slow efficiency. Took 30 minutes to get the pickup slip with the car number. Waited at row T for an hour, asked 3 people and checked the slip, all said the car was being washed. Finally found out there was no such car, got a Mazda 3 instead.

The staff had a bad attitude, avoided their own problems, and then tried to persuade customers to buy extra insurance, radio packages, and other useless things, resulting in nearly $500 in unforeseen charges.
For these 8 days, I only drove on highways, never drove on any dirt or gravel roads. November in California is neither too hot nor too cold, how could the tire blow out?! The tires must've already had issues! The customer service is supposed to be 24/7, but no one answered at 10 PM local time! Ended up calling 911 for a tow truck! And they still mysteriously charged me money when returning the car!
I repeatedly emphasized that I didn't want any additional services, but they still charged nearly 300 USD when I returned the car, saying it was for roadside assistance and an extra tank of gas. I'm certain I didn't request those services, and I even asked during the rental process if there would be any additional fees besides the upgrade fee and was told NO. However, they charged me upon return, and there was no one to reason with. I'm puzzled as to why these charges weren't deducted when I picked up the car but only when I returned it. It's clear they are taking advantage of the fact that you might not read the contract carefully, which is very frustrating.
Since I only had a US driver's license and not a Chinese one, Avis did not accept the order from the car rental platform. It took two hours to resolve the issue through the platform’s customer service, placing a new order and negotiating a refund for the difference. Avis customer service was not very friendly, but thanks to the platform’s customer service for their patience and solving the problem over the phone. I will use the platform again, but not Avis...
Too slow. Additionally, I didn't notice any scratches when picking up the car, which became an issue when returning it. Also, Mainland China car insurance is not accepted. I suggest everyone thoroughly inspect the vehicle during pickup as they can be quite difficult.
Having rented cars in many countries through the Zuzuche platform and directly from local stores, this company is the worst I've ever encountered! 1. The car model did not match our reservation (it was several tiers lower than the models listed on Zuzuche). Complaints to Zuzuche were futile (they said each country has different vehicle classification criteria, not based on price, how ridiculous!). 2. The staff was extremely inefficient. When it was finally my turn, I realized the delay was due to constant promotion of their products! Despite having already bought insurance, they kept pushing more products, warning of possible incidents if we declined — basically, scare tactics! After a 13-hour flight, we waited another half-hour in line, followed by an hour of arguing! Moreover, the staff's attitude was terrible! 3. No one showed us where the car was. We had to find it ourselves in the parking lot. The car was old, with crumbs and snacks between the seats — disgusting! 4. The platform claimed GPS was included, but upon arrival, they tried to sell us a paid GPS. When we refused, they gave us one entirely in Spanish, making it unusable!
The process was long and they took advantage of the fact that English is not our native language. They said there would be no extra charges on our package, but we ended up signing anyway. They even asked us to give them the pickup slip, and when we returned the car, we found out we were charged $81.52 for insurance. Who would buy insurance worth almost half the prepaid amount of $189? It's ridiculous. Luckily, a supervisor corrected this when we reported it, but if not for another foreigner having billing issues, who knows how long it would have taken to resolve our problem.
The queue was orderly and fast, but there is a suspicion that the counter staff might have misled customers. They asked me to sign, but the amount was incorrect. They explained it was the domestic package amount. Currently, it is being verified by the rental company, so the situation is still unclear.
The line was very long, took almost three hours. When it was our turn, there were no cars available, waited for another hour. No place for family to wait, sat outside, child had a fever, told them but it was no use. Waiting outside worsened the illness, later spent over a thousand dollars for medical treatment. The front desk clerk was watching movies the whole time, worst customer service I've experienced in the US. After finally getting a car, a fault light came on after 20 minutes, had to go back to exchange it, reached the hotel at dawn. Is this really the second largest car rental company in the US? More like the second to last.
