Returned the car early, but the Avis store at Vancouver Airport insisted that they would refund a CAD 75 voucher, saying we could call Zuzuche to get it. When I called Zuzuche, they asked if I had a recording, or they needed a handwritten receipt? It's not about the CAD 70, but the fact they promised something and then didn't deliver. A verbal promise should count too.
When picking up the car, the fuel tank was not full. The display showed a range of 758 kilometers. When returning at the airport with a full tank, it showed a range of 800 kilometers. The car's exterior was not cleaned, and there was trash by the seat inside. The wipers did not clean the windshield properly. The steering wheel was too light, the brakes were too heavy, acceleration was slow, and the buttons inside the car were not user-friendly, making it feel like an airplane cockpit. The car's GPS failed to locate the current position all day, showing as being in Alaska, and there was never any response when calling the rental office at Calgary Airport. Despite having already bought the highest level of insurance on the rental platform, AVIS staff pressured me to buy additional insurance, warning that even a small scratch would cost 1000 CAD. This was by far my worst car rental experience ever!
“Wonderful and pleasant experience for first Tesla drive”
About AVIS:10.0/10
I happened to go when the counter was empty and it was a really smooth experience. Overall I would say the experience was very smooth and the staff was very helpful.
About QEEQ:10.0/10
I like the price drop protector as many of my bookings I have gotten a pleasant surprise when the price drops!
Reducing the waiting time and providing the requested car model
The queue for picking up the car took more than 1.5 hours, even though the pickup time was already scheduled 45 minutes earlier, I still had to wait an additional hour. I originally requested a Ford Escape but was later told it was unavailable, so I had to take a Jeep Compass instead.
There were two spots where the paint was peeling off. After communicating, I signed a form and had no issues afterward. This potential problem was avoided. The dashboard showed 100%, making me think the gas tank was full, but it was actually the engine oil. After driving about 40 kilometers, it cost me 91 CAD to fill the tank. At the time of return, they told me there would be no charges, but the invoice showed a deduction of 97 CAD for not returning the car with a full tank. I fell into the trap! This dishonest company bets on the fact that you are a tourist (who won't come back), don't check thoroughly, can't read the receipt, and will give up on following up afterward (accepting the loss)! On the first night of using the car, I noticed something was off. I contacted the car rental customer service, and they assured me to keep the evidence and that I could file a complaint afterward. It's been nine days since I returned the car, and there is still no resolution. They claim they are still communicating with the store, but who knows how many years it would take?
Apart from the car being rather old, average cleanliness, and having several scratches, everything else was fine. The rental and return processes were quick.
Pick-up and return procedures were very simple and amicable! The staff at the Calgary airport branch were kind. I'll definitely choose QEEQ again for my next international trip!
