The model provided at pickup was smaller than the original reservation, causing our luggage not to fit. After explaining the situation to them, we were told that we either take the smaller car, cancel the order, or pay extra for an upgrade. We spent 2 hours trying to resolve the issue with the rental company’s customer service but were not satisfied with the outcome. Since we couldn't afford to waste more time, we opted to pay extra for the upgrade.
The pick-up service attitude was not great, and they did not give a complete explanation of the car's condition nor did they provide precise directions to the parking lot. The car had 80,000 kilometers and its condition was poor, with an engine that roared like a tractor. The benefit was that there were contracts and instructions available in Chinese. Entering and exiting the parking area was somewhat challenging, mainly due to the airport's road design which requires taking detours if you miss an exit. Therefore, it's essential to allocate sufficient time.
I waited for half an hour in the parking lot to get the car. The service attitude was good, and they promised to refund 30 euros as compensation. It's been three days since I returned the car, and I haven't received the refund yet. The gas tank was not full when I picked up the car, and the staff promised to reimburse me for the difference when I returned it. It's been three days since I returned the car, and I haven't received any update on that either. They didn't inspect the car at pick-up or return. They only asked if there were any issues, and that was the end of it. To avoid future disputes, I took photos and videos of the entire car during pick-up and return. However, the parking lot was too dark, so the recording was just for peace of mind.
I could not be more pleased with this office they went above and beyond and were so welcoming and wonderful to us. I will definitely recommend this location to anyone interested in getting a car rental Paris.
Three complaints: 1. I booked a Mercedes CLA, but received a Renault Arkana, which I consider an unreasonable downgrade; 2. The wipers were severely worn out, making visibility poor on rainy days, the rental company did not maintain the vehicle properly; 3. The first car had a severe malfunction, losing power on the highway, which was very dangerous.
The staff was friendly, but there were significant hidden charges that exceeded the total cost of rental and full insurance. There was no paper contract and no Chinese contract (despite the platform clearly indicating that Chinese contracts were available). Requests for the paper and Chinese contracts were denied.
I was worried about others saying they'd push insurance on us, or add insurance without our consent. However, they just asked for our home address, showed us the contract on a screen, and had us sign it. We couldn't fully understand, but we signed anyway. I used my phone to translate and told them we already had insurance. I think they understood because there were no insurance charges on our final bill. We were lucky and didn't end up having to buy extra insurance. The car was relatively new and very clean. Fuel in France is really expensive, usually around 1.98. It's cheaper in Italy, around 1.8 for the one time we filled up there. French highway tolls are also extremely costly. So, self-driving trips aren't cheap! It's just convenient not having to drag suitcases everywhere. But driving is really tiring!
Despite all precautions, I was still charged over 1000 euros for insurance without my knowledge. Firstly, they added an additional driver fee of over 300 euros, and upon returning the car, they had me sign and charged me directly, even using the deposit to cover the insurance costs. It was extremely disappointing to be charged an extra 1000 euros for insurance on top of the full coverage I had already purchased. They even switched the car to a French model.
Avis in France is really terrible. The car I rented had no maintenance at all. After just two days, the brake pads had issues, grinding down to the metal discs. It was terrifying. I went to a nearby branch in a different city to see what could be done. They offered to replace the car, but only had manual transmission vehicles, which I couldn't drive. They then directed me to another location. I nervously drove the car with the faulty brakes to the next branch, where the staff didn't believe me at first. After a brief test drive, they agreed to switch the car. I asked if we needed a new contract, and they said they would email it to me. At the end of the rental period, I returned the car with a full tank and no damage. The staff said there were no issues and that the invoice would be emailed to me. After returning home, I found a charge of over 100 euros on my credit card. I never received the invoice, and only found out through the rental portal that the charge was for not returning the car with a full tank. I find this disgusting. When I appealed, they asked for evidence that the car had issues. How am I supposed to provide evidence of faulty brake pads? The car was replaced and the staff tested it. Shouldn't that be enough proof? Do they expect me to fill the tank before risking my life driving to an unfamiliar branch? Who compensates me for my time and fuel spent searching for a branch?
The overall experience was straightforward with no unnecessary hassle. The car was new and the driving experience was excellent. However, when I rented the electric vehicle, I specifically asked if there were any special requirements regarding charging, and the staff said there weren't. Upon returning the car, the inspection staff suddenly told me I needed to charge the battery to over 80%, resulting in a charge of more than 20 euros. This was a negative experience.
“Maybe due to COVID, lack of suitably large enough automatic gear cars for family trip.”
About AVIS:6.0/10
Counter staff insisted that they only had smaller suv compared to Tucson. Then tried to upsell with added on insurance and then after that insisted on renting me snowchains because the cars all were on summer tyres. This is for a one month rent in December! Chain rental calculated per day and came to more than 100 euros after “discount”. I could have bought a set of chains cheaper than that.
“Poor car rental company and poorer booking company!”
About AVIS:5.0/10
The car was given without inspection. When complained, I was told to take picture such as no full tank or broken parts. The safety yellow jacket required by EU law was missing and I had to take a movie to show it wasn't there. At drop-off they tried to charge for missing fuel and I had to show the picture I took. Avoid Avis if possible.
The car already had damage at the rear before departure, and I had informed the staff about it beforehand. However, I was still charged over 1200 Euros for repair costs without any notification; the amount was directly deducted from my bank account. I only found out after checking my bank statements. I truly cannot understand this.
