The pickup location had a power outage, so we had to wait a long time in the morning before being taken to another nearby location to get the car, which delayed us by two hours. When we returned the car, the first location was still under construction, so we had to go to the second location again, which was quite a hassle. Overall though, the company is still good.
We chose the Passat manual transmission group, and we were pleased when the staff at Charles de Gaulle Airport helped us arrange an Opel Insignia station wagon (similar to the Buick Regal in China, but a bit bigger with a larger trunk space). We had four suitcases for two adults and two children, which fit perfectly in the trunk. If it were a sedan Passat or Regal, they definitely wouldn't have fit. Thumbs up to the team here. The car was very new, with only a few thousand kilometers on it and very clean. It had manual transmission, no sunroof, but came with all the advanced features like rearview camera, distance alarms on all sides, lane change warning, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, dual-zone climate control, etc. The car's built-in navigation supports English and was very accurate. As long as you have the detailed address, the navigation is very useful with comprehensive traffic signs. We drove over 2000 kilometers, reaching close to 200 km/h in Germany without experiencing noise or vibrations. Plus, the diesel engine was very fuel-efficient. Overall, we were very satisfied with the vehicle and service.
When picking up the car, the staff issued a new invoice that was twice the original price. The original rental agreement already included insurance, taxes, and GPS, but the staff charged for everything again. It took over an hour to resolve the issue. Be sure to carefully check everything before swiping your card and signing.
The location was relatively easy to find, and the staff were generally friendly. We requested to shorten our rental by one day and change the drop-off location, both of which were accommodated without any issue.
Overall, I am quite satisfied. The staff was very helpful and upgraded my vehicle. I recommend purchasing a full tank of fuel in advance, but later realized it's not cost-effective.
The Eurostar arrives at Paris North Station. We asked the EUROCAR staff there and were told to pick up the car at the East Station. They said it was a 5-minute walk, but it was extremely difficult to find using the map. With a large family and lots of luggage, it took us over an hour to find it. Later, we heard that many people have trouble finding the East Station rental location and often complain about it. More problems arose when we were given a Fiat instead of the Mercedes VITO we booked. Despite putting up with the brand difference, the large size of the Fiat made parking extremely difficult, as it could not fit in most underground or regular private parking garages. We tried negotiating with the EUROCAR staff to change the car, but they refused, saying there were no other cars available. As a result, we had to rely on taxis for most of our trip in France, which caused us significant inconvenience.
Overall, it was pretty good. Although the staff at the front desk didn't speak good English and tried to upsell me to a higher-end model, it's understandable. It was just a sentence or two, and when I declined, they didn't press further. Besides that, everything else was fine. Hmm, the location was hard to find also.
The reserved model was not available, and they downgraded the car. All the automatic transmissions were replaced with manuals. There was only one employee at Charles de Gaulle Airport, and it took more than an hour to complete the paperwork. Almost didn't get a car.
Picking up the car was quite troublesome. The first time, I wasn't even attended to because I arrived before the specified time (Is this common in downtown Paris stores?). The second day, since I refused to buy Europcar’s expensive full insurance, they gave us the smallest car in the same category. We had a lot of people and luggage, and despite repeated discussions, there was no resolution. Even when I asked the rental company for help, there was no progress. Meanwhile, larger cars of the same category were parked in the garage.
The car was great, but the service in France was incredibly slow. It took me almost an hour to complete the paperwork, and they seemed to be in no hurry at all.
Do not rent from this rental company, Europcar at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. When renting the car, they will pre-authorize an amount higher than the actual rental cost, with the excess being the deposit. After your rental period ends, the company does not charge you the actual amount but the highest pre-authorized amount. For example, if your rental is 1000 euros, they will pre-authorize 1100 euros, with the extra 100 euros as a deposit. While this seems normal at the start, by the time you return the car, they actually charge you 1100 euros despite the agreed rental fee. Since you are already back home at this point, any efforts to argue through platforms like QEEQ will be met with various excuses, such as not overcharging, banking issues, etc. Additionally, contacting this rental company via phone is not free. When I called, they claimed I had violations, which contradicted the reply from QEEQ. Also, the cars from this rental company are in poor condition, with high mileage. Avoid renting from Europcar, even though they offer cheap prices.
The first day the vehicle had issues, but they were quite sincere in resolving the problem. They sent a taxi to pick us up, but there was no vehicle of the same class available. The second day in Annecy, we were told again that no equivalent vehicle was available. On the third day in Lyon, we felt the car was too small, and they refused to give us a higher-class vehicle, even though we were not originally planning to go to Lyon! This greatly delayed our trip and wasted our time and money by having to detour to Lyon just to change the car! For these two days using a lower-class vehicle, I request compensation. You can't just refuse to compensate because you don't have a vehicle available. When I requested an upgrade, they refused.
We picked up the car near the Galeries Lafayette in Paris, then went to a nearby parking area for a self-service pickup. There were no inspection procedures. For the return, we dropped it off at Charles de Gaulle Airport without any checks. We just parked it in the car rental area of the airport, noted the parking spot, and that was it. The return time was based on the pick-up time. Our booking said pick-up at 8:00 AM, but we actually picked it up at 9:00 AM. Not only did they not charge us any late fees, but they also changed the original return time from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Awesome! The only downside is that the deposit refund takes quite long, about 60 days. We rented the car for a total of 11 days, with a deposit of nearly 567 euros.
The store is located inside Paris Saint-Lazare station and is easy to find among a row of car rental shops. The procedures were simple and completed within ten minutes. The car was very new, with just over 4,000 kilometers, which in China would not even have passed its first maintenance. The unlimited mileage was great; this trip covered over 4,000 kilometers.
