Received two charges of 31 euros each four months after returning home. I got a parking ticket in Sorrento, Italy, and paid it in cash on the spot. I suspect someone is stealing money. Be very careful when parking a rental car in Italy, they're desperate for money now.
The location is not very large, the parking lot is just a couple of small blocks away. Went early in the morning to pick up the car, hardly anyone there, the service was fairly standard.
I have gained a deeper understanding of the unreliability of Italians.
Before picking up the car, I called ahead and scheduled for 11:30. When I arrived, nobody was there and I had to wait about an additional fifteen minutes. These are small issues.
I rented the car in June, and after returning to my country, I suddenly received an email in September forwarding a fine notice. The fine should have been two pages, but Hertz only forwarded me one page, with the payment method on the second page. I had to go through a lot of trouble to Google how to pay the Italian police fine. The fine was issued in July, and by the time I received it, there was not much time left of the 60-day payment period. It took multiple communications with the rental company to finally pay the fine.
During this process, Hertz provided no effective assistance but charged me over 30 euros for a so-called service fee, just for forwarding my contact information to the Italian police. That money was too easily earned for them!
In summary, the service was terrible, they were eager to charge money, and compared to Hertz in the USA, the difference is like heaven and earth. If there were a zero star option, I would choose it without hesitation. If possible, I would like to give them a negative score and tell them to get lost!
“Very good drop off in Venice, but Rome pick up was too busy”
About Hertz:8.8/10
Like: I got an unbelievably low rate through easy rent cars.com and the car was almost exactly what we wanted. Dislike: The horn in the car didn’t work and in Italy you definitely need a horn. The car company REALLY REALLY should give EVERYONE quick briefing on driving in Italy (ZTL zones, camera surveillance and ticketing, etc) even if it’s just a 3x5 size explaining in the drivers language what mostly is different in traffic laws for Italy. It could even be written by former car rental customers.
When returning the car, we were required to fill up the tank. After doing so, the fuel gauge still didn't show full, and they charged us without explanation. Fortunately, we noticed and went back to dispute it. We took the staff to the gas station, filled the tank again, and the gauge still showed one bar less, causing us to waste money on extra fuel, as the automatic machine didn't give change. Going back again for a refund wasted a lot of our time.
Hertz rental company has a cold attitude towards Chinese people, not as good as Avis! When picking up and returning the car, no one interacts with you much, and they don't even provide receipt documents. Moreover, they didn't inform me about DEF for the diesel car, causing me to worry for a long time and pay an extra 15 euros for AdBlue.
I had a 4 PM reservation to pick up the car. I arrived at the counter at 3:30 PM, but they made me wait in line with non-reserved customers. I didn't get the car until 6:30 PM.
